Locks have gone wonky and Bluetooth doesn’t like to connect

Hi,

I’m hoping someone can help, or at least point me in a direction to get help that won’t cost a bazillion monies. And I’m not sure how to search to see if someone else has posted this.

A while back I noticed my power locks started going wonky; for example, with the car running, when I stop and put it in park, the doors unlock. But as soon as I pull the handle to open the door, the doors either lock or unlock without my hitting any buttons.

More recently it happens when I park, turn off the car, and open the door. Most times the doors are automatically locking. It usually scares me as I’m getting out of the car because it’s not expected (because I’m not hitting any buttons inside the car or on the fob.)

Sometimes, I’ll unlock the car with the fob, open the door to get in, and the locks do their automatic thing before I can sit down inside.

Today I noticed that, when the locks do their wonky thing, the anti-theft light goes solid or it blinks very fast.

Has anyone else’s power lock system been infected by gremlins? Should I scan to see if a code is being thrown? Could it be something as simple as a fuse?

It's not much help but my Canadian spec 2016 Sonic LT hatch automatic has begun doing the same thing and I am hoping someone knows why.

I have a Canadian Spec 2016 Sonic LT hatch with automatic and several months ago it began to automatically self-lock once the car was parked and I opened the driver's door to exit. I do not use Bluetooth so can not speak to that issue. I have found that shutting off the radio before stopping the vehicle seems to reduce the self-locking exiting issue as does pausing briefly with the key out of the ignition before opening the door. Also, replacing the key fob battery has reduced the event to possibly once a week.

I am following this because my daughters 2013 is having a similar issue and now the lock/unlock button inside and the key fob do not work

Did anyone ever figure this out? My 2016 RS is now doing this. Locked me out of my own car while I got the mail and had to walk home lol

2013 1.8L Chevy Sonic here with same issue. Randomly locking when opening door, closing door, turning car on, turning car off, doing nothing. Sometimes i press unlock on the fob and before i can open the door a second later it automatically locks.

Its not the fob. I took the battery out of the fob, pressed unlock on the console (while 20 mi away from backup fob) and it locked itself.

Thinking of installing some hidden backdoor way to unlock the door from the outside because my wife has been locked out twice whole the car is running and Ive had to bring the spare. Not sure how since these things dont use regular keys so a hide a key wouldnt necessarily work... Open to suggestions

I was at my winter house doing laundry when I decided to wash the pants I was wearing, needless to say my fob didn't survive. I lucked out as the doors were unlocked, placing the dead fob in the cup holder allowed me to start the car. I investigated the issues around 'key fob' after being quoted $200+ to replace my fob:

1. Purchase a new fob while you have two active fobs, you can program the new transmitter without reprogramming the existing fobs.

I lucked out, two days after drowning my fob I was ready to schedule an appointment with the Chevy dealer, I decided to try the fob one last time and it worked! Since the dealer route was a 5-hour drive plus $160 service charge, I'm ordering a fob to make sure I have two active fobs in case of an accident, my drive is a 2017 Sonic RS Hatchback. ACE hardware can cut the new fob door key without an appointment and service charge.

You can purchase a fob case with key for $12 and have ACE cut the key then hide it on the car, I'm glad they fixed the issue by 2017.
