sorry to resurrect an old thread... i was searching for warranty info and thought i'd add my 1.5 cents.
I was raised to never by the extended warranty. I was brought up being told there is nothing you can't negotiate the power that be to do for you via the BBB etc...
That being said, my 2004 Sunfire engine blew up about 5,000 miles out of the drivetrain warranty. I "negotiated" a 50/50 split in cost to replace... that cost was $2,000.
Since then, I've always purchased the extended warranty. Not really based on cost, but based on not wanting to deal with 3+ months of negotiating.

I paid an extra 300$ for the gm protection plan . it adds 60 k miles and 3 years to the base warranty , not a bad deal and only a 100$ deductible
I too am a big believer in the extended warranty; I got one with my Honda; known for it's reliability right? Well, just outside the Honda Warranty, the A/C went; I was completely covered by the extended warranted which then immediately paid for itself; then an electric windows went; again, more $$$ and more savings; then the remote door opener went, again more $$$...etc, etc. The extended warranty for the Honda CRV more than paid for itself and that was on a reliable car that's been in production for a few years. I'm on my 3rd rear-end in my Chevy truck; all failed outside the GM warranty, What's the chances of an unreliable GM vehicle in it's first year of production, not having any electrical/computer or A/C problems after 3 years???

One way to look at the service contract (that is what it is its not a warranty) but anyway one way to look at it is like a bet....The company offering you the contract is betting you that what they charge plus the profit the dealer gets will be less then the cost of any repairs that they (the service contract writer) charges and you are betting that things will go wrong with your car that cost more then the contract. My bet is that the service writer is in business to make money so they will win most of the time. :banana:
well, you're sorta right, except I don't believe that they change the odds (that is, the price ) of the contract based on models or failure rates. Just an average of cars over time.

I am taking the high road on this one. Every 3 years they get to put up with me in "I dislike dealers" mode. Take care of your whip, do the 3 oil changes at the dealership and trade it in. Don't sweat the trade in value, just demand at least the KBB. Helps to take a ton of photos before they start looking it over. Historically dealerships damage the cat or slice a hose, even dent and scratch the car to try to reduce it's trade in value. I'm not saying mine would, but we shall see.

I did it. I did the 5 year 100k bumper to bumper warranty. No deductible.
When I had my 08 Saturn Astra, I had to replace the 02 sensor, a blower motor, transmission mount, and some other stuff I don't remember. Each trip would've cost me at least $200 each time (just for parts, we're not even talking labor at the dealership), and I only had to pay $100 for my deductible. In the 4 years I had the car, I racked up almost $1500 in warranty work but paid only $200. That to me, seems worth it. Plus since I don't have that car anymore (traded it in for the Sonic hatchback instead), I'm going to get back whatever is left on the warranty as a refund. It won't be much (prob $100 more or less), but at least that's something.
I would do the warranty if I were you. I ended up having to use my warranty on my car, and I didn't do anything to cause that stuff to happen to my car. **** happens.

My thought as someone who does not get the extended warranty:
The deadline the dealer gives is arbitrary in that if you do not opt for the extended warranty, GM will send you multiple offers at deep discount (50%) several times over the following several months.

My Mercury extended warranty more than paid for itself this past month. Recently had it in for an oil seal, oil filter housing replacement, and a broken seat rail ($1800) plus a few days in rental while the car was down. Last week it was in for a new a/c compressor, evaporator, drier, flush, and fill ($1400). I paid under $2k for the extended through my credit union. Well worth the investment.

I would recommend getting the Chevrolet Bumper-to-Bumper Extended Limited Warranty because of what it covers/benefits. It's like having insurance. It will give you a peace of mind when the time comes and you need it. Let us know what you decide.

I got the extended warranty, 100,000 bumper to bumper instead of the 36,000. I average 40K miles a year, so that bumper to bumper warranty would have been chewed through in less than a year for me. Mine was no where near what is being quoted in this thread, though. Anyway, less than $15 more on my monthly payment...no sweat off my back. I'll buy 3 less beers a month to balance it out. Big deal.

Yeah they'll still send u offers and you'll have to opportunity to shop around warranties.

If you plan on trading the car in after 3 years, don't get it.
I plan on keeping mine till it's paid off, so the warranty makes sense for me.
If you normally don't have to spend a lot in car repairs, then you prob won't this time. If I hadn't had done it, I would've spent over 2k. And on the car before that way more.
Just depends on past experience you've had with cars.
