driver window switch feel

I just read the wiper delay switch thread and it made me remember my little frustration. The driver window switch transition from 'down' to 'all the way down' is too light to the touch. When I want to crack the window open by 1", I almost always push it a little too much and the thing wants to go all the way down...then I quickly switch up to stop it, but go too far again and it's going auto-up!

I've been trying to push it with a lighter touch, I guess I just don't know my own strength

IMHO, the switch needs a little more resistance between two modes so you can feel when you hit it.

same here. I like to crack the windows an inch when I leave the car parked for a short period in the sun, or with the dog in the back while I run into a store, etc. I cannot get a feel for the switch and go auto down, auto up before getting it right.

just an fyi you can click it into auto down then click it again and it will stop. If you do this quick enough you can open the window a few inches.

I roll the windows down all the time with no issue on the Sonic or Sierra. I could see it being frustrating if your switch is more sensitive and like Kyle stated, just lift up or push down on the switch again instead of letting it roll all the way down.

It's not a matter of a "hard" or "light" touch... it's a matter of how fast or how slow you are using the switch. If your reflexes are slow, it will go into full up/down mode. If you tap the switch fast up or down without holding it too long then it will respond accordingly.

I can understand where you're coming from, my Honda does the same exact thing. But I've learned to tap it when I want it to travel only a short distance.

Again... it's not a matter of how light or hard your touch. The mechanism, to my knowledge, isn't an actual "touch-sensitive" device. The Sonic is nice for what it is, but I doubt Chevy's going to use expensive touch-sensative devices for opening windows one would normally find only in a Bentley, Lamborghini, etc...

I would be shocked otherwise. You may be getting a little nitpicky regarding this issue... I don't know, maybe not. Just be glad they provided actual electric windows on [at least] the upper-end Sonic models!

When I first got my Sonic, I did the push it too far, catch it, but pull too far, and back and forth a few times. This is my first car with an express up/down window.

I have since developed a delicate touch.

Fit4Sonic, wow! you are reading way too much into what I wrote. I never implied that the switch is touch-sensative like an I-pad or something...where did that come from?

I'm talking about the force to overcome the spring rate in the switch and the friction in the detent mechanism in between the 'down' and 'full-down'. Say for example it takes 0.1 lbs of force to move the switch down into the first position, but it stops at the detent. Then you increase the force to 0.2 lbs, the switch moves past the detent into position 2.

theenico states he developed a light 'tough', again that's the force, not some kind of touch sensative panel.

My '98 civic & '04 mazda 3 switchs have more force resistance between position 1 & 2. I just wish the Sonic's switch had a more defined 'feel'.

Kyle1993, thanks! I didn't know you could tap the switch DOWN again to stop the auto-down. I thought you had to move it UP to deactivate the auto-down...

I'll try that.

And it doesn't even have to be a full press down, like all the way to auto. You can press it all the way down for auto, and then just barely press it to stop.

Fit4Sonic, wow! you are reading way too much into what I wrote. I never implied that the switch is touch-sensative like an I-pad or something...where did that come from?

Maybe I misunderstood you... maybe you took what I said too strongly... yada-yada-yada!

There are rides with actual touch-sensitive window switches... but they're one heck of a lot more expensive than our class of cars. I didn't know if you were expecting that from a Sonic, or what.

Anyway, I wasn't trying to blow anything out of proportion. It's all good here. I wasn't trying to correct, pick at, or belittle in any way.

My apologies for any misunderstanding!!!
