Want a 1.4, Need Fog Lamps, Can't Have Both?

Live in California's central valley where we get some ridiculous thick fog in the winter. Fog lamps are pretty much essential equipment. But for some odd reason the fog lamp option is coupled with the 16" wheel upgrade, which isn't available with the 1.4 liter engine. Seems odd at best. And since you can get 17s with the 1.4 on the Z model, makes even less sense. What gives, Chevy?

Fog lamps

Fog lamps are an available dealer-installed accessory. You can put them on anything.

I'm gettign a LT 1.4T Hatch and would get fogs if I could, but no dice...no one understood why...

When I asked her to clarify why it is not "compatible with the turbo", I never heard anything back.

Yea that doesn't make any sense to me either, but I have ran into this problem with other GM vehicles and in the past it has been because they will use different wiring harness on different trim levels and engines. Which doesn't make a ton of sense either. The good news is that the accessory fog lamps should work on the LT with the 1.4t

I thought she meant not compatible with the order itself, in other words one can not order fog lamps for the 1LT with the 1.4T, and I did not think she meant the fog lamps were incompatible with the engine itself.

FWIW the fog lamp sixteen inch wheel option is on constraint. Supplier problem.

Assuming you're referring to the "Fog lamp kit" available via GM's accessory site, are they the same lights that come with the LTZ, and LT appearance package? Any difference in look or function?

I'm planning on ordering them through the dealer and having them do the install (along with whatever other accessories) as I'm too lazy/non- mechanically-inclined to try it myself.

Yes, I'm pretty sure he got those and I'm pretty sure they are the same as the OEM fogs.

A link for this thread was used when another post on the subject came up..

The numbers start getting close when you take an LT, add the 1.4T, then go adding fog lights and premium rims..

Hits a point when you are probably better just getting the LTZ, and that comes with 17's, fog lights, plus a better interior.

Unless you do not want the heated pleather seats (I raise my hand) and the cost of black chroming the wheels made the LT version more viable for me, but if one did not mind or even wanted the upgraded seats and was not of a mind to change or modify the wheels, then your are correct, the LTZ would be a much better deal.

You are right, pleather, not my favorite, I'd be OK with paying a little extra for real leather.. I bet the RS comes with the real stuff.

My issue though is cloth versus pleather, rather have the pleather. Pleather versus vinyl though (obviously paying less $$ for vinyl) and I think I'd rather take the vinyl and throw some seat covers over it ..

The tendency of cloth to soak up smells & spills I can't stand. Nice to be able to clean a seat the way you clean a countertop.

One of the many reasons I didnt get the LTZ. Vinyl, dont like the 17's, and its heavier. I wanted the fog's but not the 16's. Too bad there arent more options available to a specific trim model.

There will be. W know as time goes by Chevy adds more options as well as more choices. The most extreme changes over time would be options and choices available in 2004 to those ordering a Corvette C6 compared to the options and choices offered today. That is an extreme example, but shows what is possible. Less extreme, Cruze first model year compared to this model year.

And the recently announced Sonic RS (for the second model year) shows how that pattern progresses.

Lest we forget, look at the difficulty Chevy has had with the limited number of choices and options available for the Sonic this model year.
