FIT or Sonic?

I can't ever see myself in a Fit LOL, unless i were married or use it for a grocery getter.


I'm pretty happy with the Sonic so far, im getting 33.2 mpg and i don't drive that conservative. But I can see why people drive them, in fact my mom is considering a fit. :banana:

@sspeckerwood I've honestly thought about learning Hindi cause there is no way my Hindi can be as bad as their english. As for the fit, I feel that the car is rather blah. fine for a grocery getter but that's all the styling it gets.

Sonic was an easy choice. Practical, assembled here, spent 6 months retooling the plant, and i like it.

Funny you mention this, I too looked at a Fit Sport before finding my baby, like everyone said, the styling is way too minivan, it has way too many damn windows everywhere you look, the power specs are horrible, & my wife absolutely hates it! At least it had paddle shifters on the steering wheel (automatic), but other than that, I'd never buy anything Honda cuz I'm about as anti-Honda as you can get (I hate that brand). The only reason I checked it out was cuz my dad likes 'em & it was to really appease him before going to other dealerships. After luckily stumbling across my black turbo auto Sonic hatch w/Inferno Orange flash package & 17" black aftermarket rims I was hooked for sure. The Sonic got really good reviews which influenced me also, but it was the combo of everything on it (fully loaded LT) that was the final straw. So far, absolutely NO complaints & I love it very much, for the price it really can't be beat in this segment. SUPER SONIC BOOM!!!

Sonic Pros: The Sonic has a slightly better interior, tons more low end power (turbo), and a 6th gear for better highway mileage.

Fit Pros: Honda reliability, it's a bit lighter and nimbler.

I'd call styling a wash/subjective.


My vote would go with the Sonic, but if Honda beefed up the engine a bit and added a 6th gear without adding weight it would be a dead heat.

Fit also has a few nice features that would've been nice on Sonic
- Foldable rear seat allowing some vertical cargo room
- Paddle shifters

There were a few more that I liked but I forgot them.

i've seen the fit's in corners. they have a lot more body roll than a sonic.

I've got one of each. Each a fine car, depending on what you want. I would have looked at a Fit if they offered it in a sedan.

Deciding factor...with regrets?

the fit is outdated now, i would wait for the next gen to compare.

This ultimately was my deciding factor in choosing the Sonic over the Fit a few weeks ago. I mean really, who doesn't have automatic headlights in 2012? Honda. Who doesn't offer a 6spd? Honda. Who hasn't updated their car in 4+ years? Honda. I really wanted to like the Fit, but the Sonic's wealth of options, handling, price, and USA-assembly won me over.

HOWEVER...my Sonic is currently at the dealer for the second time in 2 days because it stalls intermittently and often cannot be restarted for 15-20 mins. We chose a new model, and perhaps, are now suffering for it.

A few with odd and possibly major issues have popped up.

Having worked in dealerships before I can assure you that intermittent issues are really hard to find and correct. Sometimes there is a TSB for an issue and following the TSB does not always fix it. However the TSB has to be followed if it fits the problem. So many different things can cause an intermittent issue and its not always easy to find.
