Evo X Owner Going to Sonic?

Hey guys, I am the current owner of a 2008 evo x and I was looking to get it traded in this fall on a new sonic rs. i know im throwing away about 160hp and my all wheel drive. but I now have 2 kids and need to start saving on gas but want to still have fun. Just wanted to get some opinions from people on hows the sonic handles and its get up and go to know if its really worth making the switch to a sonic?

I wish I could give you some good advice on the Sonic but seeing as I drive a 1.8 automatic I'm a loser. :/

Trust me, i wish that was the case haha the gas mileage in my evo is killing me, and i constantly have my two kids in the car and have every honda and other car trying to race. So im trying to go a little less stand out but i wanna have something i can rip around when im on my way to work and what not! have any mods to your sonic? sorry this is the first time i've ever been on a forum so i know nothing about this stuff haha

I say drive a 1.4 LTZ and see what you think, the RS won't have more power but a little more pick up becuase of the transmission gearing. If you like the LTZ you should like the RS all the same (maybe a little more). And if it meets your needs for mileage and room for the kids it sounds like the right thing for you at this point.

yeah i test drove a ltz but it was the sedan 1.8, it was the only one they had at the dealership at the time. I didnt mind it, and i know the 1.4 has more torque and i've already got my aftermarket list lined up to get the sonic more power. the only reason i didnt pick up the ltz in the first place was the rear drum brakes (just not a fan) and from i hear the rs will have 4 wheel disc, as well as a more sporty suspension, different gears, and pretty much all the goodies! but how do you feel power wise and funability to drive with the sonic, my only time i really get to myself is when im behind the wheel of my car, so i want to make sure its somthing that will keep my attention and just not another trade in a year down the road?

And i drive about 100+miles a week

It turns on a dime and the turning ratio is awesome

Make surr you get the turbo and i got the sedan for the more room being that i have a one year old

I've had an 06 and 09 Civic Si and it's not a Si but it is still fun to drive. My Sierra is faster and if I really want to play around I just borrow the GS. For what I need to Sonic for it fits the bill nicely, it's a turbo car with great mileage and it has a quickly growing aftermarket.

See I really wanted to get the sedan as well, but I just dont think i can bare with the rear drum brakes. I also had an evo 8 before the evo x, and before those two i had a 4ws honda prelude so i've always been around very good controlling vehicles, also very fast. and i'm also moving into the city so the extra gas mileage will help out big time!

i think you would still be happy, but like said in an earlier post, you have to remember it's a different kind of vehicle. i traded in a modified trailblazer ss(most people think it's just a "pimped out" suv) giving up around 300hp and all wheel drive.

the other day i was out cruisin in my sonic on some open stretches. it was the first time really running it some, and i was pretty dissapointed when i saw how it started struggling just to hit upper double digits, let alone triple... my tbss would see triple without an effort. However, i took some twisty back roads home and couldn't keep a smile off my face.

The sonic really is fun to drive and impressive, but just in a different way than you'll be use to. sounds like in your situation it will be a good fit, and you'll love the mileage. i know i was when i saw about a 20mpg jump from what i was use to!! :banana:

oh, and i have the 1.4T HB, with just an intake and shifter bushings, lol. can't wait for a tune since it's makes such a big change

see i was also looking to get a new civic si, but for the past year and a half before the sonic was even released i was looking into it! the headlights just blow me away and the gauge cluster is equally impressive. plus with the cost of the sonic compared to my evo, i'll be able to start building the sonic up right away! my biggest concern from almost all of you guys is comparing it to your past vehicles and kind of hinting at how under powered it is! is there no hope with even aftermarket of making this car quick? if i could get one pushed to about 250 of reliable wheel horsepower i'd be happy, but all's i've really seen was intake, exhaust, an tune...which wouldn't be a bad christmas present haha but I need more

see i haven't really looked into the hatch, the wifey hates hatches as it is (she even offered to buy the big brake kit if i get the sedan) haha but she isn't aware of the price. and when i did check out the sedan and looked at the trunk i was impressed! Does anyone know if they're planning on making a nxt version of the sedan or is the sedan just gonna be the left out brother?

haha i hear what your saying man, and if i could keep the evo around i would, i love my evos and i'll have one again someday. but where im at in my life something a little more family but yet still tuner friendly is what i'm looking for. i'll probably wait until i make more money and can blow alot of my money on upgrades along with the payment of the evo before i go back to it, but im looking at huge savings in every aspect (fuel, monthly payment car, insurance) and all that i save on that just in one month would be enough to do whatever i really want with the sonic!

Stratton ran a 14.3 on race gas and I think he was mid 14's on 93. And that was on a tune and the limited parts we have right now, ZZP intake, custom turbo back 2.5" exhaust, TTR motor mount, Pedders coil overs and possible a few other things. I think things will only get better and the only limiting factor will be the trasmission, but like everything, once they start blowing up someone will start building kits to beef them up or find other stronger ones that will swap.

see that's what i like to hear, sure a 14 isn't the most impressive, but im not going for a full street sweeper anymore haha i was looking at badnewsracing.net and already have the list from they're site! i haven't seen the coil overs yet though? i honestly think i've done more research on these damn sonics then i have my own evo while i've owned it so far...i have been back and forth between suv's, a jeep, a truck, and for some reason i keep circling around to the sonic, and from what im hearing they're pretty fun to drive! does anybody got the time from 0-100?

In the end its just a fun little economy car and as long as you realize that you should be fine. I started looking at the Cruze when i realized the smaller lighter Sinic has the same motor making it easier to buy a gas getter and keep the truck.
