Navigation and Backup Camera

Has anyone found a dash bezel replacement product that will allow a traditional nav screen/backup camera/radio/CD/flash/mp3 to be installed on the Sonic - one that makes it look like factory?

Or is there even enough room to install the box behind the existing radio?

BTW, I did a search of the entire forum and found 0 results.

I believe the usual suspects like Crutchfield, Scosche, etc. are still developing their aftermarket install kits for the Sonic. I check both companies' websites periodically for any updates and so far nothing.

I was just on Scosche's website and they list part number GM5204B as the dash kit for the Sonic however it is not to be found in their product listing for dash kits. So this has to mean they are developing a kit however it is not ready yet. But at least we are getting closer. Side note.....the kits are rather pricey for the Cruze and new Regal so we should probably expect the same and for the kit to run $300+. Too pricey for me.

Questionable part number - got this from a reliable source.

GM part numbers are 8 digits long, with no alpha numeral characters, so there is no reality to that number.

It is not a GM part number. It is a Scosche part number.

I remember the Malibu and G6 had kits from Metra with BCM and DIC controls and a display since they were integrated with the radio. I'm assuming the same must be done for the Sonic since the BCM settings are controlled by the radio. I wouldn't want to lose that functionality.

If I had to say there was one "aw man, it doesn't come with this?" thing, it would be a backup camera. I wonder if there is an aftermarket solution for the rearview mirror, rather thn a dashboard screen? Seems like there would be.

There's a company that makes an OEM OnStar mirror with backup camera for the 2012 Chevrolet Sonic.
However… it's not cheap, :eek: ...but it looks great if you want to keep all your OnStar features. Check it out:

Seriously...My parents rented a Traverse for a weekend in Florida and it had that, neat little thing but if I could choose between that and a large 7" screen with a backup cam for around the same price or less, I'd go with the 7" screen in the dash

Yeah, my thoughts too. :eek:
I think they should offer some kind of a trade-in for your old OnStar mirror to offset the price (and I'm not talking some "courtesy $50" either). Maybe they could cannibalize it for other parts (??), or offer a few years of free OnStar service. But that's a lot of "$$$$" for just a gain of a back-up camera.

There needs to be an add-on for the MyLink system.
Install a camera, then when you put it in reverse the MyLink screen automatically switches right to mirror mode.

Now THAT is an option.

My first post...

I don't know if anybody has seen this yet.

Metra 99-3012G 2012 Chevy Sonic Single and Double Din Installation Kit

I don't know how it would get around the BCM controls, I'd imagine they could still be adjusted by hooking in with a computer through the obd connector. If you think about it though, after you've set things like how many doors unlock with a single button press and so forth, how many times after that are you going to fiddle with those settings. I'm seriously considering going to a touchscreen stereo just for the better sound quality because the factory unit doesn't really seem to sound that great through the audio streaming. Also a back-up camera would be nice too since I still have a pretty tough time judging exactly where the back-end of the car is. I installed a nav/back up system in my s10 and I've never looked back (cause the camera does it for me! :D). But seriously, it would be nice to figure out just how much factory functionality one would lose from upgrading before we take a 750-1000 dollar plunge.

Edit: Found this in the DIY section, seems like its been done but doesn't make a conclusion on BCM settings.

Yea thats my thread. We havnt found an actual solution to the controls like the malibu's. There is an lcd screen out that says it can do it but I cant seem to find it. The dash kit 3012g ive used 4 times. You pretty much lose the ability to change anything in the menus like the factory radio for now at least.
