Tinted the Tails

so i titled the tails on the car today. Used some VHT Niteshades, with perfect match clear coat.

Looks good man, I have some nightshade left over from a previous project that im going to use on mine, just have to buy clearcoat.

how bright are your lights since you've gone that dark?
i plane on blacking out everything around the signals and break and reverse with 2-3 coats over the break, maybe 1 over the reverse and turns

i put 2 coats on, after i installed the tails i tested the lights and they looked good. not to dark you can hardly see them, but it took the brightness out of them.

I need to do that. Can you spray the tint on lighter if you want? It seems like in every photo or video of cars with the Nightshades treatment, the lights look really dark (as yours does to me). Would it be easy to get "half way" between what you have and no tint? Or would that look as if it hasn't been completely sprayed?

I think you could, just add coats until your happy and then match with the other light. Plasti-dip has a smoke that I think I am going to give a try, it still peels of all the same.

Very nice, I like the blacked out look. I prefer to use rustoleum translucent lens tint over VHT but both do come out good. Let us know how they hold up over time in the sun, i have had issues with nightshades starting to turn purple after a while.

i just picked up a can of the rustoleum last night because i have heard the same of the VHT, i plan on doing really light coats to try and smoke them out rather than black them out. CHP can be dicks out here about the lights.

Not if you don't tint the two circles on the tail lights. That's kind of what I've been planning on doing, as the upper red circle is pretty much all you see in the dark from behind. I just want to tone down the bright red around the circles and the sides, and I really doubt that would be considered illegal.

True as long as there are no visibility issues they wont have much to complain about. I had completely blacked out LED tails on my GTP for a long time and have been pulled over for various reasons and not one cop mentioned my lights as they technically were brighter than the stockers. If i remember correctly around here if the whole light is covered its considered illegal but most cops wont have an issue if it doesn't hinder the light output so much that its a safety concern.

I agree, I'm looking to tone down the red on the sides, just wish the sedan had tail lights like the HB then this issue wouldn't be an issue...

Agreed I wanted a sedan all along but the HB tail lights and rear fascia almost steered me too it since it looks way better than sedan IMO.

Looks great but if you get rear ended you are at fault, well atleast in Nevada you are at fault and it not just a assumption two of my buddies both got screwed over when they got rear ended the cops said that there tail lights were modified to where it made the brightness to dim to see

by my guess the tint may have reduced brightness by about 15% and i bought new bulbs that claim to be 50% brighter than stock. with just the right side done i could tell a huge difference between the two and even the stock where very visible. when i applied the tint i did it with just a very light mist so when they light up you can still see them very well. hell i pass cars on the freeway that don't have tinted tails that are way harder to see than mine.
