Not saying you dont know what you are doing, I wanted to do it myself as well. From the dealer I was told I would lose my suspension warranty by self modification. But yours may be different than mine. So I played it safe. Should something go wrong it may be a hassle getting replacement or repairs. An oil change is simple DIY PM, but not comparable to a suspension mod.

It takes me longer to do an oil change than it does the springs. I have to kill a 12 pack while i watch the oil drain out.

i've had more screw ups with people that are "certified" than i've screwed up. If i've voided my warranty thats cool. I'll fix it and i won't worry about the dealer touching my stuff. Lol.

Every dealer is different though. Some will screw you over, some will take care of you.

Dont get caught up in warranty...

We have sold Eibach for over 10 years. Never an issues on this topic if anything happens.

1. If you have a Eibach problem over the years they will fix it.

2. The ONLY way your CAR warranty will void is on the factory springs (which why would you need warranty on an item you do not have installed) and possibly the factory struts/shocks.

It will NOT void your "powertrain warranty" or general car warranty. That is BS... Dealers may want to claim that, but they dont have leg to stand on in court; unless they can prove the installed part directly caused another part to be damaged.


Lets not get a huge argument on this topic, it helps no one. If you feel one way or another, great, do as you think is right.

They told me so long as they do the alignment they will still cover everything except the springs.

You don't have to be a certified mechanic to work on your vehicle. If that were the case then nobody could do there own oil change.

They can void certain things in your warranty, but just cause i put springs in, it doesn't mean if my gas cap broke its not covered.

are you saying the dealer has to do the alignment? i just finished the springs and i have an appt somewhere to do them in an hour. please let me know asap.

the dealer doesn't have to do the alignment. mine is going to do it under warranty and not charge me anything

By the way, my car is being fixed right now. Not only did they claim the damage to the transmission and clutch, but they are going to fix all those pesky rock chips all over the front of my car, AND replace my windshield, which had a large crack in it. In the meantime, I am driving a 2011 Chevy Colorado LT. Ironically, it's exactly the truck I would buy if I had the cash right now. With a long travel suspension, some 33" General Grabber Red Letters, and a supercharger this thing would be outstanding!

Mine were delivered to my parent's a few days ago, just opened the package earlier today =D

To everyone that had their springs dealer-installed, what was the labor cost for installation & alignment? I'm hoping it's not too much over $300.

I was quoted $400ish for install and alignment.

It's such an easy Job to do yourself. O'Reilly will rent you the spring compressor..

Makes sense. The only things stopping me from doing it myself are the weather and finding a compressor. But if I don't find a dealer who won't give me a number I like, then I'll be renting a spring compressor and jack stands when autumn rolls by.

I wish the wheel arch, in front and back of the tire, wasn't so wide. That's the only thing I don't like about the lowered look. I see so many lowered cars with smaller radius wheel arches that look great because the tires "fill in" the arch. No such luck with the Sonic.

Oh good I'm not alone on this one lol. I know what you mean. I read a review of the sonic a few months ago mentioning the body of the sonic looks designed specifically for the 17" wheels; lowering it with 15s or 16s seems to reaffirm that statement.

It's not a BAD look, but I prefer lowered cars that arch naturally with its wheels.

I might just sit on my coil kit for this reason, plus rumors of the Opel 1.6 engine coming to the US makes me wanna save my springs too- just in case
