How much is too much with automatic transmission?

I have the automatic tranny, and I am just curious if open downpipe out, intake, and a trifecta tune will be too much for the tranny?

I know some of you guys are pushing out some awesome power!

Straight from GM's powertrain website: 6T40 - Maximum of 180 engine HP and 177lbs-ft of engine torque. These figures aren't when the transmission will grenade on you but how much power it can hold reliably without abuse.

I had thought the 6T30 was used in the Sonic and yet I see the 6T40 is also listed. Is the 30 used behind the 1.8 and the 40 behind the 1.4?


Or, would the correct term on this car be "beside" rather than "behind"

You're right. The 4T60 goes with the 1.4T and the 6T30 goes with the 1.8. And it definitely is beside. I'm amazed at how tiny these transmissions are compared to the previous 4-speeds.

The 1.4T in the Cruze got the 6T45 which is a little bit stronger, but it needed to be since it's a heavier car.

Argh! Freudian slip! Good catch on that. My last car had a 4T60-E.

Grand Am actually. The Camaro would've had a 4L60 I think.
