how good is the stock muffler?

ok, so i don't really know sh!t about which parts of the exhaust are the reso and cat....i understand what each does...but...if i were wanting to remove the muffler and possibly the reso until i have the money for an exhaust system, how would i go about doing this? would i just unbolt from the flange about halfway back from the engine or so?

^ that's the stock system. #10 is your second CAT #12 is your res #13 is your muffler. I would start with just cutting off the muffler if thats what you're thinking. I did it right after the hanger just before the muffler, after a few weeks i wanted to be louder so i unbolted the flange between the cat and res and i am currently running it open at that flange.
I have noticed some Blackish spatter around the areas where my exhaust is open so keep that in mind.
Also maybe Eric could chime in but i dont know if there is a replacement for the mid pipe (#4) available yet

Ok cool. And this definitely won't hurt the engine right? I know this is completely different but I just remember when I used to have my motorcycle and was thinking about running straight pipe and the mechanic at the local bike shop said not to unless I had enough pipe to keep it from backfiring cause it could cause weak spots in the pistons.
I know a few of you have done stuff like this so I'm sure it's fine, just try not to assume stuff anymore.

I may try to unbolt the flange and pull it off today. We'll see....

you will have to cut the muffler off to get it out anyway, i would start with that and see if you get enough of the sound you want. going with no res is loud i mean really loud, you probably won't like it at first.

my only concern is when i take it in to the dealership for oil changes....i have my 1 "free" one plus they gave me 3 more cause of the delay in picking up my car...

the other option is to remove the rear torsion bar, but just to get the exhaust out that's a big task. Five minutes with a reciprocating saw or a couple hours with multiple hand tools your choice.
Also IIRC most of the nut's and bolt's have paint marker on them so the tech's can see if you took something apart so it may be better to just cut the muffler off.

So am i correct in assuming that's the only stock portion of your exhaust or have you replaced that as well?

I replaced that as well. Just yanked it out, had a guy bend me a new bigger one, and put the new one in.
