So to not throw a light, does my intake need to be roughly the same volume as factory? Or is it based on airflow. I can log and watch all the parameters but I don't know what I need to keep in check.

When I did mine I just cut it to be as long as possible, I used a razor knife that I heated up and it went through it like butter, I then beveled the inside edge to about 30 degrees and I am yet the have any issues or throw any codes after about 2k on the set up

They had a discussion on this with the zzp intake I believe. They would get an inaccurate reading on stock tune when the restrictor was removed because the airflow was slower due to increased volume of the pipe. After they tuned the increased pipe size would no longer throw a code and they got accurate readings.

Ok. So maybe I should log a few runs stock and see what air velocity looks like, with that I could start with a full custom intake and tweak it until its similar.

Did the code come instantly or did you need to run it a bit

Don't hold me to this as I'm no expert but I think all you need to keep from throwing a code is to have the same/similar cross section at/around the MAF sensor and laminar flow (smooth). That way the MAF reports any increases in flow accurately, if the intake flows more air (and the cross section at the maf is the same) then it will report the an accurate but higher airflow.

If the cross section is bigger than the MAF would under report air flow because more volume is flowing but is crossing the sensor at the same speed.

I don't think total intake volume will play much of a role mainly since the injen appears to work and it is significantly longer than stock.

Again I'm no expert and have never engineered a professionla intake but it makes sense.

from my understanding as long as you leave the portion around the MAF stock you won't have any CEL. I did have a few rough idle issues and it stumbled off the line which is why i put the small portion of pipe before the MAF. hope that helps.

Also your elbow look a bit different can you get a pic of the entire assembly?

That's the only picture I took, I can get another later, its got a lip that continues inward about half an inch or so on the inlet and outlet, otherwise it is hollow. It's like a little chamber of airflow confusion.

Also I don't remember seeing those braces from the subframe to the body before, coulda just been something I've never noticed, can someone confirm that those are common?

The Cruze intake doesn't look like a bad start but the MAF location does not seem like you could use it for anything.

Did a full spectre intake today with the factory maf housing. Sounds really cool, still have a little tweaking to do to make it fit perfect. I plan on making a heat shield eventually and I have a bracket I've partially made and will finish up Monday when I have access to my tool box. I've put about 30 miles on it and have no lights or funny sensations. Doesn't really feel any different at all other than it sounds cool., maybe a little peppier around down low when you're trying to lug a hill. Probably just placebo effect though.

Until you get it tuned you won't notice a change. The other night when i put the SAB back on it felt like a limp noodle. When i swapped the RNI back on it was alive once more.

Yeah I didn't expect a power increase, it did make it sound cool and more fun in that way, so I'm satisfied.
I have about $70 in it

It's just a few Specter parts from your local parts store, i did mine this evening for about $30

The elbows are about 10 bucks each, clamps are about 5 plus whatever filter you get. Kinda hard to beat IMO. Plus you get the special feeling one gets from building something yourself

Plus in theory I believe the plastic is less likely to heat soak then metal. Just a thought. Most k and n setups are plastic

Tmo - is there a reason you didn't reuse the elbow before the maf? Just didn't need it?
