I ended up getting a pretty good deal on a Certified Black Granite Metallic 2010 Silverado LT Z71 fully loaded with 18K on it. The 6speed transmission is great in my opinion. I need to get my "man card" stamped for the exemption of ultra-sonic rear parking assist. That is very helpful in a pick-up.
The fuel was my number 1 reason for getting the Sonic and there was some of that feeling of "uggh 12 gallons is only half the tank now" when I first filled. The Sonic won me over from my old truck for a few reasons, all of them the driving dynamics including the instrument panel.
However the ability to....
-take all of my possessions and up and move them anywhere at anytime (Active Duty its nice to have that flexibility)
-the need to eventually (early as this spring) tow my Firebird Formula, it was a great time to buy.
The Sonic did offer a great cargo capacity, but I've gained stuff and I wanted to be able to use all my seats.
Good to know for those keeping track of value, "on paper" I broke even with what I owed. The Sonics are "holding" a pretty good value off the lot, I got a pretty good deal on it to start though. Take away the warranty and GAP ins and I have a nice couple of checks to cash to even it out.
Down the road, you'll be sure that the Sonic will be on my list when ever I end with a house and picket fence.
Also, lets be honest, I did drive that little fella hard, so you can all look at it as another test of the 1.8L and 5 Speed and components of the chassis. I took full advantage of my fuel economy and traveled 13K miles in about 9 months of ownership, and that was mostly scenic routes finding twisty roads. I maintained it well and it never used a drop of oil. The cam sensor and electric thermostat was the only real trouble I had and being on the same basic pigtail area makes me go hmmmmmm.
Feel free to shoot me PM's and I'll be back browsing from time to time with input on GM related things, the GenV V8 is looking pretty good and hey maybe the next "downsize" will be the next generation Canyon for me.
To sum it up, I went from a 2005 Sierra with 100K into a 2010 Silverado w/18K for not much more money and carved my interest rate from 8% to 6% with SCRA, to 3.9% on the Sonic deal and now 1.9% on the truck.
Funny thing is I never really pictured myself with the Chevy bowtie was always a Pontiac guy, so naturally the GMC felt right but this sporty looking truck will do, guess I've passed the chrome phase.
Good Bye Sonic, first new car, sad to say good bye but literally moved on to bigger things. "Somethin' 'Bout A Truck"
