Got MY Sonic two weeks ago, very VERY nice car.
I'm from South Africa and it would seem that we got
different engines here...

I have the 1.6, and you also get the 1.4 (non turbo) here.

It's a 5speed (It looks to be an 'Ecotec' motor from a 1.6 Opel Astra)
10.8:1 Compression ratio
Bore: 79mm
Stroke 81.5mm
DOHC with intake and exhaust VVT
85kw/155nm (115hp 114ft/lbs for you westerners )

So not too bad for a 1.6 engine.
But coming from a 1.8T Modified VW Polo GTI the Sonic is quite slower indeed.
