Muffler Advice

I am thinking of replacing the stock muffler and buying a magnaflo. What exact size inlet would fit? I'm going to buy one from Amazon since no muffler shops around me seem to carry stainless.

Not sure what sound I would get by doing this. I don't want it very loud just a little more sound than stock would make me happy.

If there's better alternatives that are cheap I'm all ears.

Cut off the stock muffler and replace with a piece of pipe. It's not that much louder because the turbo kind of acts like a muffler in the first place.

^^ true. With just the resonator the sound is very good well atleast on the 1.4t. Which engine do you have?

It's not that there's anything wrong with the 1.8, I just can't think of anything good about it that the 1.4T doesn't do just as well... and the reverse isn't true. Other than the money, 1700 clams isn't insignificant if you only wanted LS, and even 700 takes a lot of tanks to make up at only 5mpg better mileage.

If you're only taking out the muffler for sound, then it's pretty simple, try a straight pipe delete first, and if that's TOO loud, then an Advance Auto Parts one. If you're looking for performance gains, you probably need to replace the whole system with a larger diameter one. Or does that matter on the 1.8? Grr, I'm still thinking 1.4 too!

No it will not, unless you are going to angle it at 45 degrees to get the end of it back to the stock location. Look at your factory muffler, it is dual offset, inlet/outlet opposite ends from each other.

Go with this (My recommendation because you can go up to 2 1/4" on a tailpipe):

If your gonna go that route it's gotta be shorter than 20in length and your gonna have to use a bend at the end

If you don't have access to a welder, by an equal diameter exhaust band... Approx $7-10.
Cut the muffler off at a location that could be easily banded back together.
Drive around without the muffler.
If its too loud, band the muffler back on until you order and receive an aftermarket one to install.
If you like how it sounds, it will be loud BTW, leave it off and when time permits, have a muffler shop weld in some straight pipe. Approx $40.
