Supercharger

So not sure if this thread belongs here or not (sorry)
But I was just pondering.
In the future when I'm ready could I add a supercharger to the 1.8???
would it be better than a Turbo?
I mean the Cobalt had super chargers and so do mini coopers.
Let me know what your thoughts are on this.

I doubt they will make a supercharger for it Ik bnr is working on a turbo kit

With enough $$$ anything can be done. Super chargers are a simple and sometimes cheaper way to add forced induction but also rob power to make it.

I'm not saying you're going to loose power with a supercharger but it is a parasitic power maker, spinning that pully takes power. I would say wait for BNR or DDM to finish up the turbo kit for the 1.8, Wait for someone else to pop the heads off and see if you are willing to take the extra steps to make it bullet proof.

I come from the supercharged world, believe me you will never notice the robbed power even on a 1.8

The nice thing about "blower power" is it comes on quick and strong, no noticeable lag like you get with a turbo. But a turbo is "free" power since you are using waste gasses to spin it rather than the pulley off the motor.

Not as hard as you would think on a stock forced induction car. Not cheap thats for sure but not rocket science either. The right tune and a trans/internals to with stand the power and a butt load of money your set lol. With the Sonic you would just run into space issues im sure.

I have noticed supercharged engine in the 8 to 9 psi produce power improvement similar to turbocharged engine in the 16 to 20 psi.

Not that that means anything, just a pattern I have noticed while I bounce around the world wide web.

If anyone is serious about supercharging, I would refer them to Dave Michel who has tons of experience doing both and if my memory is correct, doing both on one engine, if the pockets were deep enough.

But a centrifugal supercharger w/ BOV will defintely give you the screaming sound you say you want.
