Factory wheel/tire sizing

After reading various posts on this forum for a few months, it would appear that many Sonic's are coming with 15 inch wheels as a standard. Even Chevrolet's brochure (link would indicate that a 15 inch wheel is standard and yet my 2LT 1.8 AT hatch came with 17 inchers right off of the lot.

So what gives here? Some further searching reveals that 17 inchers are optional in Canada on a 2LT with 15 inch being the standard, no 16's are offered while in the USA (link, 17 inchers are not even available on a 2LT package.

Why the differences between Canadian and US models? I suppose this would also probably explain why so many Sonic owners in the USA have 15 inch wheels - just looks odd compared to what I've seen on the lots in Calgary.

They march to the beat of their own drummer up there in Canuckistan! In the US, 15" are standard with 16" coming with the Wheel & Fog package and 17" being the LTZ size.

In the US, the 15" is standard execpt on the LTZ. There is an optional wheel and fog light package that you can get on LT models. It then gives you the 16" wheel.

The number of differences between the Canadian and the USA versions boggled my mind, and go way beyond wheel choices. There are way too many differences to enumerate but I would much rather have ordered using the Canadian order book.

Canadian Sonic owner here. I got the LT with the technology package, no fogs and it came 15" rims.

The issue with the ordering system is that you can't get the LT with the 1.4t AND the wheel/fog package. If you want wheels other than 15's or fogs you have to get the LTZ.

In other news, who the heck decided to use a 5x105 bolt pattern? There are almost no good aftermarket rims for it!

Manufacturers are getting on the ball with wheels. It won't be long. In the meantime, search for Cruze wheels, since the Cruze is the same bolt pattern.

Does anyone know the torque spec for our lug nuts?

100 lb ft per owners manual. I personally wouldnt on alloy wheels. I have always torqued to 75 lb ft.

I have a LT Sonic (fully load but with no upgraded stereo) and mine came with 17" rims !! Haven't seen any Sonics around here with 15" rims.

And by the way ........ I got mine with a "Tim Horton's Coffee" eh ....... and NO Bacon here !!! LOL
