It was still kind of on topic in a sense.


Preloader, I updated the first post with some valve/valve spring information. Any chance you have measurements to compare with the 1.4?

I have no measuring instruments. It's been on my wish lift forever, but just hasn't happened.

Thank you for the reply. I had to go digging to find my calipers to measure. These springs seem really weak. I can just about compress to coil bind by hand. If i had gloves on to keep the spring from digging in I may have been able to.

Up soon on the list will be finding a local place to flow bench the head and see if porting is even needed. Still need to contact a few cam regriders about having a set built up and reprofiled. If more lift will not be an option then maybe look into duration.

Former set of cams I had for a GM Quad 4. Base circle was already taken into account when that measurement was taken.

What is that cam from Scot?

Is there ever a point where you end up with so much lift and so little duration that stress on the belt or chain becomes a concern?

I think the limiting factor for lobe lift or even duration will be the valve springs. Stock springs seem very weak and finding a suitable upgrade may be difficult due to the size.

It might be that the best option so far to reduce possible float will be lightweight retainers. I still need to get a 1.4 retainer and then take both to the place I have used before.


Something like this might be a nice option (obviously not these as they are a Q4/Twin Cam hybrid).

Valve spring compressor arrived. Hopefully get everything stripped down soon and off for a hot tanking to clean it all up. Still waiting to hear back on a few things about possibility of working on a valve spring upgrade. I need to get a valve spring tester some time, but these things are weak. I really world worry about running a larger cam or any positive manifold pressure with the stock springs.

Ive got the 09 Aveo 1.6 if our heads can swap I would be interested in some sort of group buy if u can pull one off, perhaps a head package like Gude/Bullfrog had back in the day for earlier imports.

I do not know if the heads are interchangeable or not. I am sure that there are enough differences between them that a lot of things for the 1.8 wont work on the 1.6. Mostly what I will be doing will be for a build and getting info out there for others. Once some things around here calm down I will be back to looking for valve spring and cam options.

Supposedly the 1.6 springs are. I do not have a set and currently am not ready to spend the $500 USD to get a set of upgraded 1.6 springs sent to my door from Europe.

When I was trying to track down valve springs for my tercel engine, I was able to find Crower here in the US that had a set, where everyone was telling me my only option was ordering ones from Japan.

I'd give them a call with measurements and see what they have for you. Since you have full info on your existing springs, you should be able to find something that fits.

Yes.

Just the first obvious difference without doing any more than a simple glance, the throttle bodies are on different ends of the intake manifold. I have not compared the two much but I assume that since they are different engine families they have no chance of interchangeability.

Does anyone have any technical drawings for the intake manifold itself?
I need to know the dimensions I'm working with for the 1.8 and or 1.4 intake
