12,500 Mile Update

I've had my car about a year, and figured it might not be a bad time to give an update on my thoughts on my Sonic.

It's a cool little car, and it's one I'd consider buying again if I was in this price range. It's been reliable, though I have had to take it in once to the shop because the heated seats stopped working. There were also some glitches in the stereo lights, though that may have been related. Hasn't happened since that was fixed by Chevy.

For being a 1.4 liter engine, it's gets nice torque with the turbo. Transmission is acceptable and shifts nicely except on the first shift into 4th if it's less than a couple of minutes into a drive. Transmission fluid level is fine, so this may be normal.

I love many of the features in the interior and the car brings me back to my previous car.

I had bought my Sonic knowing it was going to be a relatively short term car. I'm looking to replace it with a much nicer all wheel drive car...an Audi of some sort. Leaning towards an Audi A6 or S6, though a Q5/Q7 isn't out of the question.

Would definitely recommend this for what this car is...a great gas milage car that's fun to drive.

Mine has the same quirk to it... but after the first rough 3-4 shift the rest of the 3-4s are just fine. On a side note... my Impala had a weird 2-3 upshift its first time shifting too but the others were smooth.

I have a hard time picturing a more perfect car for me. I love the way it works, the way it feels, the way it rewards my tinkering, the price point, the economy, it has been a much better cargo vehicle than I'd hoped for.

I still want an old Bug, but not as much, the Sonic has been many of the things I wanted from a Bug. I still want a Volt, but realistically they would have to chop the price in half before I'd even consider it, it's simply penny wise pound foolish, although I love the idea of it. I still long for a Smart every time I see one, but I know the facts are it is wimpy, too small to be of any use, and doesn't deliver on the promise of its look, which is to say something that tiny should reward my sacrifice with 100 mpg and some sporty pickup, not worse mpg than my Sonic in a ride worse than a moped with five clowns sitting on it.

On the bright side, that's going to be my daily driver.

I miss my 2010 Camaro SS and am also looking to buy a 2013 Camaro ZL1 for weekends and racing. Of course, the new Stingray just came out too...that's kind of tempting, however I've always liked Camaros.

Just passed 6 weeks since I picked up my 2013 Sonic LT 1.4T and I have to say I absolutely love this car! It gets great gas mileage while still being fun to drive and visually it looks great. I get compliments and "what is a Sonic?" quite a bit. Love the interior and I think it is an amazing value for the money.

I think if Chevy advertised the Sonic more it would sell even better. I would say about 90% of the people ask me the "a Sonic?" question whenever I tell them about my new car. The only reason I even heard of it was because my GF bought a 2012 last May and that is the reason I even considered buying one. GM really needs to get the word out there on this fun, affordable little machine.
