Feeling The Same Thing

I have 3,505 miles on my 2015 with the 1.4 in it and feeling the same thing. Since the first day I bought it I've felt the issue. Told the dealership about it and, "We couldn't replicate the issue and we see nothing wrong with the car." It's pretty bad when it's so pronounced that you feel like the seat belt is tightening up and holding you back from lurching any farther forward when coming to a stop.

Mine also seems to be hanging up in lower gears (1st gear most likely) when I'm traveling through my community around 5-10 MPH. Transmission holds the RPM's to high that when you let off the gas it still causes the car to lurch forward. Almost as if the car was a manual transmission and you left it in first gear and tap the gas a few times and you get that forward and backward lurching motion. ANNOYING!

I noticed the rough transmission on my sonic after about 6 months of use. It is still bad but I have found work arounds because the dealership says that's how the car is, specially since there are no error codes. They said its a small engine and you shouldn't be expecting much from it.

I have been driving in manual mode and now up shifts and downshifts are both rough. I don't wait for the car to do the downshifts but do it myself at higher rpms. 6 to 5 is rough, I use the brake as a clutch and give some gas before I downshift from 6 to 5 when I want to slow down, It is dangerous I know. Up shifting at high rpms is even rougher.

I also have an issue when in D, when I step on the brake to slow down, gears shift from 6 - 5 - 4 but 4 - 3 almost doesn't. I give it gas and no response from the engine. After about 2 to 3 seconds the gears shift and the engine starts producing power.

I think maybe transmission mounts or engine mounts are cracked damaged or loose. I have to get it checked. My warranty has expired so I can't afford going to the dealership garage

I drove a loaner Cruze RS with the auto trans while my Sonic was in the shop. I can confirm that its transmission was not very smooth. Car seemed to resent downshifting, and periodically wobbled a bit when it did. Gave me the odd sensation that the transmission was super 'tight' with very little give.

Coming up to a red light that suddenly switched to green was the worst. Car would be slowing, and the sudden application of gas would result in a clunk as the tranny down shifted to give the car a push back up to driving speed.

Here's the thing. I also drove a new Silverado loaner with an auto trans. Transmission on that beast did the exact same thing. I suspect its something to do with the way Chevy is currently engineering their auto transmissions.

A lot of it has to do with the stock TCM calibration, it sucks. It's far too eco-centric and gives up feel for MPG. Get a tune and have the shift points cleaned up and pressures adjusted.
