8 speed transaxle

does any one know how hard it would be to take out the 5 speed manual out of the 1.8 and put in a 8 speed auto and wher can a 8 speed auto be found?

It would be an engineering challenge and provide little results.

Problem areas
-finding 8 speed auto
-matching flywheel and torque converter bolt locations and size as well as maintaining proper input and output shaft dia (more so on the flywheel if you use one off the 8 speed auto application)
-getting the bell housing to match up, as well as engine compartment constraints
-adding sensors and wiring them into the ecm
-makeing the ecm work with the new sensors
-write whole new trans operating software. Current ecm can't even operate an 8 speed (could be flashed to work with the sonics 6 speed auto)


And finally why would you want to do this, I question the seriousness of this post

Ok,

We need to address the FIRST problem.

You have a 1.8.


Why would you buy a 1.8 to modify? The transmission is the least of the problems. More isn't necessarily better and I have to be honest, I think 8 gears would be frigging annoying. Of course you can skip a lot of them most of the time but then obviously they arn't needed.

I personally do not like a lot of turboed cars. I'm big into turbo diesels. I still like my n/a cars. I'm not saying I would never buy a turbo car but I will not go out of my way to get it

Why would you buy a proper manual, then sabotage it to put in a ridiculous automatic. Plus 8 speeds that ridiculous in a little car like this.. Mercedes & Bentley etc.. Sure but not this.
