A change in the chocolate ration?

So the news pundits are touting the news that the price for a gallon of gas has "fallen to only $3.01". Remember the newspeak from the book "1984" when the chocolate ration of 30 grams in 1983 was "raised" to 25 grams in 1984? Everyone cheered at how great Big Brother was. Well 1984 has come and gone but George Orwell's prediction of how the masses would be bamboozeled has come true. Gas was $1.80 in 2008; $1.80 to $3.01 in 6 years is about 8%/yr inflation folks. And the Feds have been telling us that there is no inflation. At the same time return on CD's is about 0.1%.

But I'm not sure what 1.80$ equates to in "today's" numbers..

Gas prices during a presidential election year are not a good index in general because gas prices almost always decline significantly during presidential election years. October 2008 is a particularly bad example as gas prices peaked at over $4/gal during the summer of 2008 before the precipitous fall resulting the $1.80 figure you are citing.

Gas was $1.80 in 2008 because the entire world was in the toilet. It's $2.69 a gallon here now and I was paying $2.45 a gallon in 2004.
I'm also noticing more and more the only time I see someone use the word "folks" is when talking politics. Thanks for sharing misleading incomplete useless information that has nothing to do with a Chevrolet Sonic.

CD as in Certificate of Deposit. Basically you loan the bank money at a really crappy rate of return. A good CD right now might be about 2% APR.
