Anybody happy with their sonic?

I have zero experience with competition models, just what I feel about it. The hard part there is this car appeals to so many demographics, that pars for 40 y/o, 21 y/o and 16 y/o are going to vary a lot.

They may well have the ability to be the same, but according to the aforementioned LTZ/RS owners say they got a different package (maybe comes with MyLink?)

Also, it has been said around here that some LT's have no rear door speakers. I doubt there are LTZ's without them, but there could be.

That's an inaccurate statement then. On par would be equal to other cars in the price range, sub-par means below them. I don't know for sure but I doubt you will find a car with a better stock system for less than $19-20K. The Cruze has a better setup but is more money. Sorry but you can't say something is sub-par without knowing what you're comparing it to.

As far as I know, all LTs come with rear door speakers, only the LS lacks them. Could be wrong, but that is my understanding.

My last aftermarket setup cost me $4500 to install my self and consisted of Eclipse and A/D/S equipment. Can you see anyone somehow including such a thing in a $17,000 car?


EDIT: actually after thinking about it, the LTZ RS and DUSK should come with a better setup. More power to the front speakers and a decent powered subwoofer would be fairly easy and would make many happy. But I still feel the LT's system is decent especially for the price.

You're going by par for the vehicle class- which unless you're declining to add in your experience, you can't say it's not sub - par.

I'm using par for my personal 'expectations', as was trueblazer. This could be better represented with another term, but is still pretty understood use.

Just because it could be as good or better than a fiesta or whatever, that doesn't make it actually good - which is the par I'm referring to.

Like going golfing with your friends who are all amatuers- you can beat all of them, but you may still not make par.

You're right, I mainly don't care for the use of the word. However I would have to ask what is "par" to you?

However, that said, if you ever had a new vehicle of any brand in the 1980s-1990s you would think the Sonic's stock system is amazing.

Ironically I actually came from a 1994 K1500 Extended cab, which did have a quite poor audio system. Compared to that the Sonic does indeed have award winning sound

I recently purchased a Infinity Reference 6.5" Component system with additional 6.5" speakers for the rear and a 300x4 amp to tie it all together. I suspect that will more than meet par- I just haven't learned enough to install them yet :blankface:

My main complaint in the Sonic is a lack of volume. The sound is slightly above "meh", just not loud enough for me. I could see where some folks would want more bass power as well.

My $4500 system was in a 92 C2500 standard cab.
The original 4 4x6 system was ridicules. Then again, so was my system with two A/D/S 12's pushed up against my back.

I've never used Infinity's reference line up have always liked their Kappa stuff since the days of the green cones even though they warped from sunlight.

Mmmm. I had 2 12's in my back seat, but it was never worth much lol. Mine was old and tired by the time I got it (about '07).

Neither have I, but the reviews were promising and the price was right!

Brother, you probably know more about what my car came with for audio versus other models than I do, and since I've always wondered maybe you can tell me? I know I have MyLink in my LT versus many that I've seen that don't, does that mean I have some sort of "premium" sound package?

And yes, the stock audio was way less than ideal, virtually all treble. However, after adding the sub I'm very content leaving it as is for a while.

I have not had an issue yet that I am aware of. My 2013 has 9,700 miles on it.

Dig my sonic a LOT.

Former e46 owner who doesn't miss the old car at all (well, not that much maybe).

2013 LTZ hatch with the 1.4t and 6 speed manual. About 5K miles so far.

Yes, I'm not too happy with the way my LT sounds..it's just ok. For what I paid for the car one cannot complain with the features..MP3, USB etc. I think a powered subwoofer would fix it.
It's strange...some songs, with the bass up, sound really good ..one can feel the bass resonating/vibrating the rearview mirror. But it seems to be only a small bass frequency range ..other parts of the song are lacking bass or some other frequencies no matter how I adjust the stock non-mylink bass,mid,treble.

This Saturday will be 2 weeks I've had mine.Taking it in tomorrow to have a noise under the hood checked out.Only does it with the ac on.Ac is kinda a must right now in Phoenix.Other than that,so far so good.I really enjoy driving it,glad I got the RS w/manual.

Well I have to say overall this car is a blast to drive , but it really dont seem to matter what gas I use, Im only getting 22 to 23 mpg.. Hopefully this will increase with time. Right now Im sitting at almost 1900 miles and got the car with 11.. This is my first brand new car, the last Chevy I had was my 73 Chevelle, 350 with 350 trans.

if you do dominantly city driving, especially as spirited as you seem to have, and never clear the avg then it probably won't by much.

My SO never cleared hers then complained that my mileage was so much higher. I reset every tank, because that's the mileage I care about

You're "only" getting 22-23mpg.
I'm curious what that Chevelle with a 350SBC and a 3 speed TH350 was getting under the same conditions? 10-12?

It's been less than a week, but count me in as one of the happy owners. Nice little commuter for the price, and the parents are glad I'm driving something safer. Cabin is quieter than I'd expected, too. I'll be doing some modifications for comfort on long trips, but the seating is just fine for the daily commute.

We'll see how it does this winter with a new set of grippy snow tires.
If it can get out of the back alley after a substantial storm and through the plow ridges left by the city, it'll earn my full respect. I suspect that the lower wind deflector will meet its demise rather quickly in my neighborhood

I crashed into a snowbank and it took quite a wallop and the rubber lower wind deflector only half came out. I finished the rest and don't miss it!

Great backroad car. Corners like it's on rails. I'm from western North Carolina, so plenty of opportunities for challenging driving. Can't wait to do the NC209 run.
