earlier he said that changing the fluid and putting it at the right level fixed the tranny issue. but thats his car. im still gonna try it & see what happens. i want to run synthetic anyways.
Thanks I saw that to - My car winds out so bad going up hills and gets stuck and won't shift - the computer was put on today and I hit the silly button 3 times. Then realized it only records 4 times[/QUOT
Mine used to get stuck in 5th I would either manual shift it or give it enough throttle to downshift then release and it would go into 6th
I believe my original statement for this section of the forum holds true. There is also possibility that my fluid was being ruined because it was over filled and caused my fluid discoloration. What occurs is a sort of foaming of the fluid causing lack of pressure in the valve body causing shift errors. High trans temps ect. Most shift issues were when warm because the fluid level is raised inside the transmission when warm. My Production date of my vehicle was 9 2011. Curious if it is a common issue for this production date. Would make sense because colder time of year and accordance to the procedure the fluid has to be between 185f and 195f in order to fill to proper level. I still had mild shift issues after I corrected my fluid level but not as bad as before I did. Hence the reason I ran fresh fluid through mine. I also was 5k into driving mine not 2k. I think the transmission is a good solid design but silly mistake made here. Too many hands in the cookie jar maybe. Who knows but I am grateful mine was not a design flaw.Hello All! I had 1998 miles on my Sonic 2LT sedan and the traction control light came on and the car would over rev and then bang into 3rd gear and then go to 4-5-6 gear. I immediately called Chevy and they told me to take the car to my nearest Chevy dealer and have the problem taken care of. I took the car to New Rochelle Chevy in New Rochelle, New York. I have taken my Chevy's to them because I have bought 2 cars from them when they were Soundview Chevy. Same dealership under a different owner, I think.
I trust the service advisers and the mechanics that work there. Mark, my service adviser, took the car in and I told Mark the problem. I said take your time and get it right, and he said we'll go through everything to make it right!
These are the results
Customer states the transmission hangs up in 2nd gear and bangs into 3rd gear-then jumps to 4-5-6
Customer states trans delays when put into reverse and bangs.
Traction Off light came on when symptoms occur
Road test vehicle- Shifting normal
Checked for trouble codes in trans and engine
No codes in any modules
Checked transmission fluid- Found overfilled by 1 Qt.
Drained transmission fluid- filled to proper level
Checked for any updates- no transmission updates or engine updates, update ECM for driveability issues
Road-tested vehicle again-Vehicle shifted normal. Operating as designed at this time- ECM code 1841E
The car shifts fine now!
Let me turn the tables, where's the proof it works? So he changed his fluid. Claims it shifts better? Zero data or analysis that the fluid is actually bad. (Realize clutches will defuzz which will darken the fluid, in addition to heat cycling.) Gut feeling is it shifts better? Like I picked up 20hp with a carb spacer plate (measurement via butt dyno)? Perceptions are a funny thing. Doesn't mean I'm calling anyone less than smart. Sure he's a tech. Great. He's got knowledge of other products. Doesn't mean he's an expert with this particular product. This isn't your mom's 4 spd or grandfathers 3 spd.
Where's the proof the fluid was bad?
Bigger questions is, the car is under warranty, why wouldn't you take it in? Take the service manager for a ride to demonstrate it. Specifics of the actions you're taking to induce the condition are critical. People drive differently. Different routes, grades, speeds, etc.
So what do you do when the dealer and GM state they can not duplicate the issues even when you take them for a ride and show them and they feel the shift problems. I have asked the dealer to check the trany fluid and they said they are waiting to hear what to do from GM after the computer thing comes off my car on Wednesday and we get the results .. Today my car wouldn't shift for more than the 30 sec snap shot the computer takes ..
What's the procedure to check the fluid? Mine is starting to bang harder into reverse. I put it in gear give it some gas, car rolls back a few feet and then it hits hard into reverse. If I don't give it gas on an incline I get a about a 2 foot roll backwards until it hits reverse.
wow mine kicks a little if im on the gas but not that bad. i just went to jiffy lube and told them it was overfilled and to dump it out and put new oil in. i got the chevy certified oil.
Your shifts might become firmer for sure. That is actually normal for this trans. It doesn't use bands like other transmissions do.

GM_6T40_Trans_Engineer: yeah im sure it'll be just fine. come back when you get your panties out of your ass.

I certainly dont agree with gm 6t's attitude but jiffy lube is definitely not the first place I would have taken it.
