boost higher than normal

now that it's been getting alot colder, in the 30's, i noticed higher boost levels.. i might have to data log it and check/have it checked out. i can't see why my boost guage would be giving me innaccurate readings, but the other night i thought i saw it go above the normal ~22psi... so i got on it leaving a red light. 1st gear shot up pretty quickly to around 22psi, and fluctuated. 2nd gear built quick and went to around 25... :eek: hit third gear and built a little slower to around 27! WTF:eek: like i said, i don't know if the boost gauge is getting bad readings; can't see how it would be, but i'm going to have to datalog and investigate. Just really don't want to screw anything up.

anyone else seeing higher boost or anything?

If a friend has a scan or ultra gauge plug that in and see if you get something different. If you have a scan or ultra gauge maybe pipe in a mechanical and see what you get. Or like Eric stated log it and send it in for Vince to see, he will be able to read your boost levels as well.

I'm sure you can! I see 22-23 psi, I don't know how I would feel about 25-27 psi without asking Vince to tune my engine like that fully expecting to have something give.

30psi on a diesel is nothing at all 30 on a stock gas engine...... problems will come

more boost is a restriction... like a kink in the exhaust or bad cat.... looks like you could have a small problem

Look at a turbo flow chart, there is a point of diminishing returns on all turbo's in relation to compressor rpm, and boost. It basically fights back against the compressor wheel and causes shaft thrust issues......... Not good!

Is the boost gauge reading 27 psi a mechanical gauge? Turn the car off. Does it go to zero? Or is it biased high? I went through 5 autometer gauges until I finally found one that actually settled around 0 psi when the car was off.

yes it is an autometer mechanical gauge and it does set at 0 with the vehicle off. i'm going to data log and send it in just to be sure. when i ordered the tune i was straight piped, not cats or muffler, and specified this, but since it sounded horrible i later threw on a magnaflow muffler and the catted dp back on. i bought the tune with the mass sale in september, and the CEL light was on with the cats off, so i'm guessing that "mass" order was most likely a canned tune sent out. then once the people data logged and sent in, changes were made accordingly... well since i datalogged after i made the changes to the exhaust, and got a "no changes needed" verification, i figured everything was fine.

i haven't had a chance to re-datalog it yet, nor have i even had the chance to see if the situation is still occuring...

i'll keep posting as i find things out. my schedule is hectic to say the least so it might be a couple days....
