Many Dodge dart guys messed with the waste gate reference line. Many claimed more power, a few suffered catastrophic engine failures.
A guy on CruzeTalk adjusted the wastegate rod length to up his boost. His engine also failed.
Messing with any part of the mechanical boost controls is not safe. Yea the car might feel quicker and may not go into limp mode, but it is very probable that at some point something catastrophic will happen.

I guess those unfortunate dodge dart dudes should have hooked up a canned tuner before (messin with their waste gates)
If your runnin 20+psi boost and Im runnin 14 psi boost you are the one who should be more worried about catastrophic failure.

So that's my point. If your tunes allow you to produce 20+ psi of boost its because you no longer have a waste gate function. It only takes 6-8 psi to open the waste gate once the control valve is opened.
Mike
. the tune still hunts for best MPGs and doesn't waste fuel spinning up the turbo.
Mike
This is so completely untrue.
Here's a good quote, “respect what the factory did and understand why they have done it [before modifying anything]” (Vince Geglia). Tuners can modify the existing boost control parameters but the ECM still has full control of how the turbo and engine behaves and also engine fail safes, everything still works harmoniously.
Rendering the wastegate reference line inoperable removes computer control of the turbo, all the computer can do (regardless of the tuner) is adjust spark and fuel, the computer lost a massive part of its control. Which side of that quote would arbitrarily tampering with the wastgate fall?
Both these articles are indepth coverage of how the computer controls boost.

Hmmm, well for starters during cruise and light throttle positions the turbo does not see positive pressure or is only producing a couple psi of boost, that's basic turbo physics.
And having recorded the 2nd highest tank average on this forum at 55.xx mpg hand calculated after driving 500 plus miles on a tank of gas I must really be wasting fuel spooling up the turbo. opcorn:
