The Sonic was without a doubt the worst car I've ever owned. A Yugo would have been better. If you have one sell or trade it. I can't believe someone created a forum for the turds Chevy made. I'm 53 and when I was a teenager I knew I would never want a GM, Ford, or Chrysler product. I should have listened to my gut and stuck with Toyota and Honda. Good luck if you have a Sonic or a Cruze. Get ready for serious problems.

I've had my sonic 1.8L hatchback for 4 years now...its been modified and tuned...and I haven't dumped much $$ into it...if you have had a 1.4L those are known for coil pack and cooling issues. I've worked at a chevy dealership before and the main thing is people dont do routine maintenance and cheap out and wait. My 1.8L I routinely change my oil at 3k miles and transmission fluid every 17k miles, check and grease my suspension every oil change and I'm due soon for a timing belt and water pump at 80k miles. If your car is taken care of and you have basic maintenance knowledge a sonic can go as long as any import car

I bought mine new in 2012 and just had my first unscheduled repair that I had to pay for a few months ago. Otherwise it's been routine maintenance.

Sonic can hardly be called an American car. It is assembled in Kentucky, but uses German Opel Astra engine(1.8) and Austrian made manual transmission. The car design is mostly Korean.
Some parts are cheap for sure and the car feels tinny when driving it, but personally I spent a lot more money on my 1999 MAZDA 626 V6 on repairs and maintenance.

Thats the problem --- these children think a sonic is great ---- they have zero frame of reference --- I bought a 2012 - 2 years ago just because I needed a car & then it was cheap ----- now I hope it holds together long enough for Carvana to pick it up --

The only good thing is --- I paid $4000. for it --- Carvana offered me $6000.
