Thank you for pointing that out. Yes, the Tesla and the Volt are hardly comparable. Yet they are both $80k cars. As I see it, that is because the Volt is developed largly by the feds while the Tesla is a result of free enterprise.
I suspect if the feds were heavily involved in the development of the Sonic it might cost more like $30k before a subsidy of $12k.

SSpeckerwood, you accomplished something that is a rarity with the above post: you got a good chuckle out of me!

You could do well to realize Obama is not a liberal by any stretch of one's imagination. He walks as close to the middle of the road as it is possible to get. I look at the number of actual Republican proposals he adapted only to have the Republicans oppose them as proof.

Any how, in testimony to my oft stated request to not confuse with the facts, this will be my last comment on this subject.

I love that in a country where the gov't's power is split between 3 branches the entirety of the fault lands in the hands of a man who runs it less than 4yrs when another branch holds its power for 6+yrs.

If the failures of a country could be in only one person's hand it would be a dictatorship or monarchy.
It is to laugh.

So a long war/occupation of several countries and 15yrs of terrible economic bubbling that nearly caused the greatest global economic disaster the world has ever know(whose effects are still crippling countries around the world) is supposed to be fixed within 3-4 yrs?

One article I read stated that the current cost of every Volt was around $80K. That included development costs split up amongst the number of cars sold. The actual cost to build the car is between $36-54K depending on what information was used to determine cost. The same article stated that applying the same formulas to the Tesla resulted in each car costing something like $6million to build. Until production numbers go up the cost averaged out per vehicle will remain high.

^ That's exactly the problem. "Cost to build" can't involve R&D on overall technology.
By that reasoning they should still be making original VW bugs because it only costed $0.32 to make.

When they use the R&D for this in other cars no one accounts for that.
Cost of materials, you can even *note* the cost of tooling as a sidebar, but that's it.

Every new car has development costs, we don't need idiots pointing out that new technology costs $ to develop.
It costed money, even lives to develop old technologies but mankind advanced for it; fire, sailing, farming, metal working, flight, etc.
