No gas, clutch slow let out is spinning the transmission and engine ad different speeds for an extended period of time. Dropping/dumping the clutch is what he is saying, less clutch slip but not very comfortable to drive and the jolt could cause problems with longevity of other parts of the car.

I get what he's saying, I was just visualizing someone new to manuals taking it to the extreame level lol

The way I see it is clutch wear is based on a combination of slip rate(diff between flywheel and disc speed), mating force, and time spent engaging the clutch(slipping/feathering).

My preference is to use as little gas as possible and feather the clutch out as quick as possible while still being smooth. Works for me
