Assuming you remove the snorkel from the fender well, it's going to push quite a bit of air into the shielded area. You would get a lot more of that air than the intake sucking it from around the small gaps in the shield. (While at speed obviosuly, it would be warmer air at idle).

That's just a basic logical explanation. But again, without a dyno comparison we'll never know.

totally loving the hiss & sounds. I bought a Forge BPV , so there will be more and I won't worry about busting the plastic OEM unit.

Not terribly looking forward to installing it though.

Not sure I'm reading you right, but according to the seller there wasn't any difference in sound, it just released quicker due to the spring pressure. That's why I passed it up. I see no way that any of us will damage the stock unit while running the stock turbo, imo.

But damn those intakes do sound great! :banana:

I'm just thinking long term...I plan a trifecta at some point... a BPV can work with that I hear, but a BOV only works with tune...

You are correct, it is the intake. "I bought a forge BPV, so there will be more" is what wasn't clear. Hence my reply.

Yes, the BOV you would have to wait until you're tuned, but not the BPV.

I'm just saying that I've been Trifecta tuned for almost a year, and I drive pretty aggressively. In that time I've yet to have any indication of the stock BPV not holding up.

Was just reading on the Trifecta tune (too bad their in FL, I'd drive there in person and have them do it for me )... I hear it's amazing...

Notice that this latest is without heat shield. Any comments on real world benefits of heat shield for the extra money. I can't imagine any SIGNIFICANT increase from the shield. Would love the more experienced peoples input!

1.4 turbo DDM intake without heatshield.

As long the car is moving, my intake temp stays within 5 or 10 degrees of ambient.

Stopped in bumper to bumper, I have seen intake temp go as high as 150°F. As soon as you start moving above roughly 10mph the temp drops back down.

Whether the added expense of a heat shield is worth it is up to the individual. For me, that answer was and still is no. I would be interested to see some numbers from someone with the shield for comparison.

I just put the CXracing intake on my turbo and i see the same temps. and the sounds are just plain fun lol. another thing i did notice is before the intake i was seeing 13.5psi max and this has been tested since i got the car. now with the intake yesterday i saw 15.2psi. no idea why it went up

Okay, I'm loving the CAI, but I want to be sure the sounds I hear are normal.

When letting off the throttle under load I hear the hiss of the BPV = normal

When going up a hill, for example, and not using full throttle I hear a similar hiss but sustained. I'm assuming too much flow with the CAI and it's being pushed out the BPV= Normal ???

It's fun though!

Have you done the BPV house reroute from MPFab's forum?

If not, it's the computer bleeding off boost because "you don't need it". To verify this, next time that happens go WOT (if you can safely) and it should hold boost.

MPFab's mod eliminates this. But I haven't done it either, my car behaves the same way.

I'd refer to it as a stutter or shutter when lightly releasing the throttle instead of cutting throttle.

Intake allows that sound to travel but isn't what it actually making the sound. Of course I am tuned and running the bov. I can also attest to the fact that a bpv will be louder than stock just not as loud as a bov and doesn't require the tune.

As far as stock reliability I don't think anyone knows how long it will be good for but that isn't why I switched.


I switched for sound and for a better seal. The diaphragm type bpv with any manufacture are notorious for leaking.

Better seal means more stable boost.

Like I said, my car does it under the same/similar conditions. It's an ECM controlled boost bleed, essentially.

Mine is more is a shutter than a suspended his but it could possibly be described that way I guess. It's like a series if small blow offs

It may be a boost bleed for you guys but I've done that bypass mod which prevents the bleeding if boost what I think it is. When you let off the gas slowly the valve is in a state of boost and vacuum cause your still partially on the throttle so I believe it's confused maybe. Lol. Valve starts to open then closes and opens again several times.

Unless I'm misunderstanding something, the sustained hiss is not the computer bleeding boost. That is simply the normal sound of a properly functioning turbo compressing air. Bypass mod or no, you are going to hear the hiss when you are in boost. Turbos are noisy; it's just what they do.

We are referring to the difference in a fast let off the throttle and a slow one. The hiss in throttle is obviously the turbo I refer to that as a whistle tho.

When you let off the throttle normally you get a nice solid pshh

However when you let off the throttle slowly I get a psh psh psh sound

I know what you're talking about, and you're correct about the difference between but sound at a full throttle and part throttle let off.

But, Natesriv described a "sustained" hiss which, to me, is really far from the words I would use to describe the chuffing sound of fun part throttle bpv operation, and very similar to the word I would use to describe the normal sound of a turbo building boost.

Sustained: continuing for an extended period without interruption.

I'm taking about partial sustained throttle, like going up a hill, where you need just that little more throttle, you'll hear a deeper hissing sound that is constant. I'm assuming it's not the turbo (a higher pitched whine)...but just the sound of that air being pulled in and the greater quantity of air now being pulled in with the CAI.

BTW, I got the dry filter extra $10 option.
