Custom exhaust

A resonator should kill the drone...but I'm wondering how to figure out how to size it. I don't really want to do trial and error. Anyone know if there is some method on sizing it right based on engine size or exhaust length? Or or or?

I know there is. It is a formula that is more complex than I thought possible. The formula is named for the scientist/engineer who developed it, whose name begins with an H I believe. If I remember his name or where the formula can be found I will add another post.
I am one who can not tolerate drone; it wears me down and makes a one hour drive feel like six. For that reason I go with kits, whose developers have the resources and understanding to put together an exhaust that allows for performance but mitigates or cancels (the purpose of a resonator) those thrum thrum sounds described as drone.

I haven't read that one before but it does remind me of several I have read.
Solo makes them for the Corvette and the Camaro (including the V6) and probably for other car makes.
I do not believe one is needed if one goes for a reputable after market exhaust system, but if going for a straight pipe w/ or w/o a muffler than something like that should be quite helpful.

Stratton has already kind of done the testing for you, from his build thread he started out straight piped with zero cats and he said it was to much. I think he went with a Magnaflow 14" body resonator and that was better but not quite there and finally ended up with a 18" body resonator. If you have all of your cats and plan to keep them you will probably be fine with 14 but if you plan on going with a catless down pipe and a highflow cat I would probably lean towards the 18. Luckily resontator's aren't hugely expensive (Bandit exhaust has them for about 68 bucks with free shipping) so starting off with a 14 and then cutting the pipe a little bit to fit the 18 isn't a huge expense and you could probably get rid of the 14 for a little cash at the end.

What length are you going with? I need to find someone that can mandrel bend locally in the Jacksonville, FL area to build me an exhaust when I get back, I will probably end up with the 18" bodied Magnaflow. If I can find someone on base that will weld for me at the hoby shot, I might just buy a universal fit kit like Stratton and build my own.

I had my muffler shop whip up a 2.5 in. stainless set up with a 26in. 2.5 in. cherry bomb No drone!! Deeper sound and a little louder than stock. I'm 62 years young and have had over 40 cars, many with too loud,droning exhaust. This combo really achieved what I wanted,a little louder and mellow. Fast Fred

Fred, did the crush bend or mandrel bend the pipe? I agree on the quiter exhaust systems, I have almost 3,500 hours in the P-3 Orion and it takes its toll on your hearing. About the loudest thing I have now is my Harley Sportster Nightster and it is set up as a short trip bike (bar hopper/drag bike).

I am having something done tomorrow. I have a set of v-band clamps which are goin right before the rear wheel where the pipe is going straight back. He is going to weld a 2 inch to a 3 inch oval tip in the back. So the cool thing is ill have no muffler a and if i want to put it back its a 2 min process .

there is very little drone now.
ok so this doesn't happen to anyway else and if we don't want 10000000 post about this.
1) If you like it really loud inside and outside the car NO res and NO muff
2) If you like louder then stock but not to the point were cops are going to get pissy and you don't want massive drone then remove the stock res and inplace add one to the same size as the new exhaust! ...also NO muff
3) If you want to be "that guy" from the turbo down no rez, cat, or muff... and well all know when your in town.
