The 9 months working in an Olds, Nissan, Isuzu dealer was an eye opener about Nissans inability to offer a reliable CVT in the vehicles that chose to put it in. Gm didnt do so well with the Ion either.
Overall I suspect the cost of the CVT far exceeds the fuel savings it may or may not provide.
Using the Ion as an example and ebay as a quick check:
CVT 1500-1650 for a used or rebuilt unit.
F23 250-450 for a used unit. I used to buy 0 mile take outs from Schram for $450 when I was breaking them in my 02Z24. I guess they dont like double the stock power levels?????
I know that manufactures only care about the trans making it to the end of warranty before it fails, but as a customer I prefer that my parts last longer than that before needing an expensive repair. A transmission replacement should not be part of a 100k service.
