I haven't driven at night in months so there isn't any night driving video on the memory card but I think that web site has example videos of night driving.

This is the camera I have:

The HD model like I have is more expensive than the standard def model but the video quality is so much better.

Also I had great customer service with this place, I had originally purchased a different HD dash cam from them but was having problems with it, I got in contact with them and they sent me this brand new replacement because they stopped selling the other model. I've been really pleased with this one.

Is this model able to record and everything when the screen is collapsed?

Yes, when I first got it I mostly kept the screen down because it was new and really interesting but I just always leave it folded up now.

Back to your original question. I wired mine thru the ceiling to the corner post down to the wiring in the driver kick panel and soldered it to a remote turn on 12v wire. On and off when I turn on the car

Would you mind posting a pic of exactly where you soldered it? This sounds like what I would like to do.

I Bought a GoPro Hero as a Dash Cam/Hood Mount. I'll be using it in the Winter as sorta of a When it get's Slippery Slide on the Ice thing. Not to mention wanting to show How Alaska is in the Winter Time...and how Driving Can be a Pain in the Booty.

I had thought about using a GoPro but I was concerned about it being more of a target for thieves than something like I got, which is really only useful as a dash cam, since I don't take it out every day.

I have a Navman " Traffic Cam " as they call them here ( Australia ) mounted up high, just to the left of the rear view mirror, so I cannot see it easily in my peripheral vision, as I found it annoying. I can just see the bottom of it, so I know it's working/powered ON. It came with a mile of DC cable, so I poked that up into the gap between the headliner and the 'screen, till I got to the A Pillar, then pushed it behond that bit of plastic down the A Pillar...then when I got to the bottom of the 'screen on the RHS ( RHS Drive ), I poked it into the black foam at the bottom of the screen ( did all this using the end of a steel ruler that was rounded off with no sharp bits )..once I got to the middle of the bottom of the 'screen, I routed the cable straight back towards the centre of the Dash.

I have also mounted a GPS into the LH Cubby hole, left of the radio screen, by making up a bracket to hold the thing into that cubby hole using picture hanging velcro, which is plenty strong enough to hold the GPS. At that point, I cut and joined the two DC leads ( GPS and Camera ) as they are the saem brand, and both use 5V DC.

Boy, this is long winded to explain...now with ONE DC lead, I routed it down the center console to the power outlet gizmo, that converts 12v to 5v. It all hangs neatly to the right of the auto selector. It has worked out reasonably neat, and I wrapped the cables in that spiral stuff that keeps cables tidy ( black, so it matches the dash ).

It was the only way I could think of running two devices from one power outlet...luckily, they are both 5v, and the plug/stepdown converter easily handles the power requirements of both units. It is fused internally, so both units are protected.

I'll take some pics and put them up, now that I have worked out how to...I still need to try to get a pic of my strut top for another thread on here, so i'll try to do it all tomorrow.

But...I removed the rubber floor in the LH storage hole ( RH for you Guys ) and it has a hard plastic floor. I then used a bit of stiff paper to make a template the shape of the floor, and then made up an L shaped piece of 1.6mm Aluminium. I attached the GPS plastic mount to the vertical part of the bracket, and then applied some of that picture hanging velcro to the bottom of the bracket, with a mating bit inside the LH storage hole....put the bracket in, press hard, then attach GPS...looks good, with no visible mounting. GPS sits parallel to the Dash...almost vertical

Na...It won't get Stolen, all ya have ta Do is remember to remove it when ya leave the Car. Besides I mounted mine on my Hood, but..it helps to have a Pretty Big SD Card. I use a 32gb sd.

Here's a pic of my install..

In the pic, you can see the dash cam cable going up the middle of the dash to the bottom middle of the 'screen, where it then turns right and is pushed into the gap at the bottom of the 'screen, till it gets over to the A pillar, where I have tucked it under that long bit of plastic that covers the pillar. At the top of the 'screen, it is tucked in behind the headlining and goes over to just to the left of the rear view mirror, to plug into the dash cam.

It has been in there for over a month now, and hasn't moved or fallen out, and I have some pretty crappy rough roads around here that are a good test.

The rubber mat that is on the floor of the storage holes makes a fine template to make your bracket up.

I'm going to use your mount idea for my ultra guage but in the rh hole & I'll probably run my dash cam wire the same as yours.

Thanks for the positive comments re the GPS mount...and I have and Ultraguage on the way as well, so that may end up in the RH cubby hole.

I'll read up on the MYLink thing...I assume that the GPS can talk to that and bring up the Map on the in built screen ?

I'm looking at another power connector somewhere, as you can bet that the Ultraguage will not run off 5v...and my present 12v/5v converter that is plugged into the power socket and presently running the GPS and the Dash Cam, more than likely would not run the Ultraguage, even if it was a 5v thing, as I would be getting close to the capacity of the converter.

The Ultraguage cable to the OBDII port needs to go down the RHS of the car, so another thing to think about on how to route that cable and keep it out of the way and tidy.

I'll put up a pic of the Dash Cam over the weekend for anyone who wants to see exactly where it is mounted.

Oh...good news from Holden Dogz...they just extended my 3 year factory warranty to 5 years, as I bought the car the DAY before that July special came into effect..I had a whinge with the sales Guy about it, so there must have been others as well...so happy days !

MyLink uses a gps app through your phone. I haven't used it yet but nice to know it's there. I haven't had a separate nav unit since my Garmin got stolen out of the wagon.
The Ultraguage powers up through the obdII port, separate power not needed. I only use it to keep an eye on temps when I'm hooning in the mountains around here. On the screen I have ambient temp, intake temp, engine temp, cat temp, boost & inst fuel use.
