I agree, when I saw it when it first came out I was probably 10 or so. It was kind of cool I guess but I like it a lot more now.
I don't think younger kids get the story, at least I didn't.
I was 13 when Total Recall came out and I loved it, still do. It took me a while to buy the remake but it wasn't too bad. I think it could have been a lot better, or should have been. I didn't feel the story was as compelling and it seemed truncated.
Now for Demolition Man; I have gained more appreciation for it with age. It's completely unrealistic of course, but I feel society will eventually become a cross between it and what is depicted in Equilibrium. I think sport has too strong of a hold on society for the entire submissive population to be as sedentary as displayed in Demolition Man.
The Judge Dredd remake was fairly good for being a completely different movie from its predecessor. I felt it also lacked too much of what made the original great. It was just a buildup of a single event which puts me off.
