Engine Swap/ Pricing (Insanity)

Is there anyway, without it being done, anyone could guesstimate the cost for installing/ fabbing an LT1 Engine in one of these little bad a$$ cars?

But to answer your question, if you paid a shop to do it, probably more than the cost of the car.

Easily $10k to do it correctly... Motor cradle/mounts, wiring, ******* the firewall and making a trans tunnel, setting up the rear end and suspension, converting the front to a no-axle hubs...

Truly pointless unless you have the motor/trans/diff ready to go and a salvage sonic to work with.

No, that would not be simple. There is more than likely no simple swap in this car, and it gains a whole extra dimension of complications if you add RWD.

Long story short, unless you are a master fabricator and do the work yourself, just buy a car that already has the engine you want in it, don't try to make the Sonic something it's not.

The only engine that I know will fit in our cars is a Mitsubishi Evo drivetrain. That's what was in the Sonic from Transformers.

After doing extensive research on the same topic I found out that it has a Evo drivetrain. If I can pull up that info again I'll put a link on here. What that being said I have decided not to swap my motor but to aim for 350hp-400hp out of the 1.4L.

The Transformers Sonic was a shell, utilizing the EVO floor pan, firewall forward and drivetrain... BY NO MEANS WAS THAT AN EASY MOD.... There is NO drivetrain (other than a "GM Family 0" motor) that will "easily" drop in. I'm not one to say "give it up" because I've done some crazystuff eith Jeeps and was told on many occasions "you can't do that..." but a Sonic ain't a Jeep

We all dream of 300+hp Sonics, but seriously..... WHAT are you ever going to do with the power? Become Drift King? Win Drag Wars, finally? Take on Takumi on Mt Fuji at Midnight...? bruhhhhhh

You need to put the weed down and stop reading too much Speedhunters or whatever it is that had you thinking this will happen... This car has existed for 4 model years, with only ONE person on this forum claiming anything higher than 250hp.

Sorry to be a buzzkill bruh, but it takes more than imagination to make happen on a Sonic.

But, for sake of argument, you have a suggestion so please by all means tell me how many man hours do you think an EVO drivetrain swap would take?

Anything can be done with enough time and money. Money being the main problem, once you start throwing money at it, its like why? When you can buy a car with more power by the time you spent all that money. But if you're rich and have money to burn, go for it if you wish.

But to me these cars are just fun cars to whip around, I don't need insane power. It's not a drag racing car, its not even a performance car. But at the same time I like getting what I can from the engine. But my car will never line up and go toe to toe with cars with a lot more horsepower. A car like this is a back road cruiser to me. Whipping around the curves just enjoying what this car has to give.
