Grinding/ Rattle On Star Up

I had a similar issue with a funny rattle from the motor, the dealer took a few days of taking things apart and talking with Chevy before they found the issue. The timing chain tensioner was the cause. Seemed pretty crazy to have to tear a sub-5k mile motor down that much.

They said the timing chain tensioner was an issue as well but replacing parts did not seem to help. It could have been a mixture of the issue and the dealer I was working with. Oh well, I've moved on. I just wanted to post this incase other people have a similar issue, I am glad yous was resolved ben!

You and me both. My Sonic has been as unlucky as yours with a myriad of serious issues starting at 1200 miles. I still like mine very much but it's been getting annoying with all the problems.

EDIT: I've always had a startup rattle as well and could never find it. Don't know if it's the same as OP's bu mine's been there since new. Sometimes it does it and other it does not. However, never had any starting issues.
