Hatch and sub box...almost seems silly.

This cargo hold is tiny.

What are hatch guys who carry..read: lots.. of cargo consistently doing for a sub?

No room under front seats and short of removing the rear side panels its almost too small to build anything into the rear hatch area.

Id prefer built into a small area(.33 cubes would be fine) and an 8...but even that seems like asking a lot to build into a false wall in the hatch sides.

Thoughts?

I use that space for stroller, emergency kit and tools.

I went w/ the Kicker Bass Station 10" and have no problem w/ space. The one time I needed extra space I undid the straps, lowered the seat, and moved the bo to the side. Because of the quick connect I would guess if I needed even more space it would be easy to take the box out then put it back in.

I will need to borrow a camera and no I do not have a cell phone that can take pictures. I might be able to get it this evening and not being certain how the flash works will probably take pictures tomorrow.

It would be a rather large back pack, but that is a good way to think of it.

Wrong, putting a sub in the false floor is one of the worst things you can do if you're looking for sound quality. A subwoofer's box needs to be airtight everywhere (unless its ported) because it doesn't rely on soundwaves as much as it relies on "pushing" air.

Anyway I'm getting a kicker L7 and building my own 3 cubic foot box for the back. (28" wide x 19" tall x 12" deep on top x 18" deep on the bottom); and powering it with 1200 watts The sub will be facing the rear but the square port will be on the top so most of the sound is directed up instead of right into my hatch door. The box is gonna leave me 4" of space on either side and 3" to the front. If I need the cargo area, I'll probably just fold down the seats. When I finish the project, I'll post pictures!

I am thinking of installing 6x9 pair 4 way in the rear shelf with removable connectors installed to my hidden amp... I did this on my last Aveo and it Jammed. Used Infinity 6 in 3 ways powered by the Rockford fosgate Mini amp and this vehicle Jammed and highs were ear piercing.

But that wouldnt do anything for me either, that shelf is out for carrying large stuff at random and my sons car seats rear anchor interferes with the pivot point.

Forgive the bad lighting, but as you can see, there is no room lost. The 1st picture shows nothing. In the 2nd picture under the bottom lid, I have a 10 " downfire box with a lip of approximately 1". I trimmed the flimsy spare tire cover to allow the box to be secured by it so it does not slide around. I also have an amp mounted in the upper left corner. It has incredible sound with nice bass and no distortion. I do not believe there is really any better way to do it.

I don't mean to critique you, but this is absolutely not true. A ported enclosure has the minimum velocity thru the vent at tuned frequency. It basically uses the resonance of the ported box as an active spring to control the motion of the speaker. The vent only "moves a lot of air" below the system's 3dB cutoff, at which point the system dramatically loses efficiency and the speaker is effectively uncontrolled.

I have to admit I'm perfectly happy with the stock sound, and have no intentions of upgrading.

BUT if I were looking for space in the hatchback, I'd remove the spare and jack kit, and put any machinery down there along with the spare tools, then set the false floor up (trimming it if need be) so that it would mount on the back seat wall, maybe with velcro, unless actually needed. That way, you could still have full use of the cargo space, or cargo space and folded down seats, when needed, but have tons of room for whatever crazy big speakers you need the rest of the time, without putting a damper wall in the way.

Fool kids and their window rattling speakers. Get off my lawn!

And I'm not looking for much, maybe 200rms and an 8.. 10 if I can fit it. Shallow mount enclosure.
