I bought a new RS, but it broke before I left the lot

I had asked you previously, did you drive the car off their lot, if you did not then you should be able to just ask for a refund of any money you gave them. I used to sell cars and they would want us to make sure that a customer drove off the lot with their cars as soon a possible. If they did not drive the car off the lot, it did not matter if they signed the contract, the car had to be officially delivered which was complete when they drove it off the dealer property. It did not matter if they drove into the street then turned around and drove back onto the lot, it was too late. There were some customers that knew this and would start to drive off then stop and back up, try to get something for free or lower price. I would seriously suggest you look into the local laws where you live. You do not have to get another type or brand of car, you probably do not want one that has problems before you drive it off the lot, just IMO.

He is correct. if you haven't left the lot with the car then its still their car(pending certain state laws) you can literally walk back into the finance office and in more or less words tell them to shove it.

I think we need a master list of good or bad dealerships we should start a thread that say if your out of town you can look to see of good or bad dealerships near you. I say have the main list keep it simple with dealership in a good or bad column with a post # next to it listing the story and why you feel it's good or bad.

I'm a decent mechanic in my own right. Obviously better than them. I believe it's probably a bearing in one of the pulleys, like the tensioner. The noise is definitely coming from the belt area. The car totally fixable. They just can't seem to do it. We negotiated one more day for them to diagnose and fix. If they don't have it tomorrow night, I'm looking for a refund. They understand this.
On a side note, they gave me a business card with "15% off" at Car Toys written on it. They claim they do a lot of business with the local car toys and worked a deal for me to ease my pain. Nice gesture..... I think. Is 15% at car toys a big deal or can anyone get that anytime there? I've never bought from car toys before.

This requires you to spend more money.... IMO, thanks but no thanks, something out of their pocket would be better. Seems like they're just passin' the buck to keep you happy. Free carwashes/detail , eerl changes (additional to the free maint that comes with the new car), handjobs etc... would be better I'd think.

The latest diagnosis is that the crankshaft pulley is bad and that's where the noise is coming from. That's plausible since the pulley is also the harmonic balancer. Turning on the a/c is when the noise starts, and the a/c puts a little more strain on the belt.
The Fedex delivery didn't get there with the part this morning, so they are pulling one off another car. Odd that they would do that since they claimed GM will not allow the cannibalizing of one car to fix another. Guess that's more of a guideline.
We'll see whether I get to be a Sonic owner this afternoon.

You are more patient than I am, I would have just told them I wanted another car. The warranty started when you signed the contract and you never even took possession of the car. You should make them redo it, if something breaks 1 day after the warranty expires they will make you pay. IMO, the car is a lemon, not the make or model, just that one.

Well, it wasn't the crankshaft pulley. I told them the deal was off, I no longer wanted the car.
The bad thing about trying to get another is that the 2014's are disappearing, and the 2015s aren't showing up yet around here. My salesman has been awesome, and we found another that isn't too far away and has everything on it but the Advanced Safety Package. The ASP isn't a deal breaker at all so I was cool with that. The next closest car to meet my criteria is about 200 miles away, so I'm lucky there is one more RS relatively close. They made me a better deal on this one than the last, in an attempt to restore my confidence in them.
So they will try a dealer trade for the other Sonic on Monday morning. With luck I'll be able to go check it out Tuesday. :banana:
All in all, big fiasco. Car has a lemon drivetrain. Salesman and Business office were awesome and the only reason I stuck around. Service dept stunk.
But looking to the bright future of driving a new RS this coming week.
