No visuals or any word on us version. Confirmed on a gm fansite this is the chinese version. Their styling tastes are different...hence changes for their market. ..which is huge enough to warrant it.

I went to this year's New York International Auto Show. There was no change in the body design of the new sonic. In fact the interior also looks the same. It looks like my '14 sonic.

That's the 2015-16 one. I think when we see any changes it'll be a '17 coming out as in 2016...

The biggest thing now is the wait for some news on either a MCE or a new design... it's coming according to sources...just..when?

I highly doubt that we will see this version of the Sonic on our shores. The first gen Aveo sedan also got a different look for the Chinese market as well. You'll note that they reused the hatch headlights for this version, something that North America didn't see:

The Chinese market is four times the size of the market in US and Canada (in terms of population), and as mentioned previously they can absolutely adjust styling for that market. In other words, I wouldn't take this overseas announcement as doom and gloom for the future of the car we all love.

We here in Australia now have the "Barina X' model. Looks like its just a normal Sonic with the features you Yankees already have, with "X" decals. No mention what so ever of the engine or anything.

Doesn't look bad, but I'll miss the round headlights. Very distinctive versus competitors...I hope they keep them. And I've gotten used to the digital speedometer, hope that stays too.
