Has anyone looked into this? I would be VERY interested. A 2500 lb car with 270hp and 260tq would be pretty fun!

might be better off looking towards the verano turbo when it comes out. Its basically a cruze and it also comes with a 6 speed (not sure if the malibu has that option)

Two problems from my point of view: 1) it is a Buick & 2) $29,990 base price.
Actually, #2 is the problem. #1 is just me haing fun.
But both problems can be overcome if the Verano had a Sunrise Yellow option.

I think it would be more practical to just get a lnf cobalt if you want a 260hp fwd car. Although its a fat 3000lb car. But if you wanna go for a swap more power to you, just make sure there's lots of pics and videos afterwards

Haha I definitely won't mess with anything of that magnitude until my warranty is up, but when it is, and if I do, I will definitely contribute all knowledge to my fellow Sonic owners!

Here is my thing with swaps...everyone always likes to think "What if I take this motor and put it in this car!?" I do that all the time BUT when it comes down to a done right swap, very seldom is it ever realistic. The time, money, know how, resources, etc add up way to quick and throw the idea right out the window. There is a reason why there isnt an lnf in anything other than what they came in from the factory ITS NOT WORTH IT! Dont get me wrong I still think a swap would be sweet I personally owned a '86 fiero with a SC'd 3.8 out of a GTP (bought not built). But if you are going to track down a 2.0 LNF and everything needed for a transplant on top of the vehicle to put it in why not just build the original vehicle the motor came out of? or just put the money towards a faster stock car to begin with? I would love for some one to be successful in a cool swap but chances are its not gonna happen any time soon if ever. Once your warrenty is up there will be something cooler and faster to spend your money on than a swap to an older car.

I've always had a thing for small cars with small engines anyway. If I ever find another late 80s Chevy sprint turbo for sale locally, I will own it. 3 cylinders of boosted fury.
I'd say before long the sonic will have some swaps going on, just let someone with too much money get ahold of one or the warrantys to run out. Rumor has it there's a 200 hp 1.6t in the works which would be a good upgrade.
I wish GM would just make the sonic into a wrx killer, I'd say 260hp and all wheel drive would do it.
And while your at it GM make a coupe version.

Not the turbo ones. you could wire in the cold start injector to come on too at a certain psi so you could run more boost. And it only weighed about 1600 pounds. 60-0 was in less than 100 feet stock

The Sprint Turbo was a Suzuki Swift GTI. Just like several other cars, it had a huge following outside the US but never caught on here despite it's excellent attributes.
Somewhere, I saw a picture of a 2.0LNF stuffed into a Sonic but I can't find it now (as usual).

You misunderstood the point of the post. The M32 is a stock transmission in the Fiat 500. The 2.0 bolts up to it and the stock Opel (GM) ECM can accept the Fiat's output to dash controls, etc... with the right tuning of course.
The m32 is the stock trans in the sonic. We don't have Fiat outputs to our dash. Cheers.

I bought a one owner all original running (restoration needed) dodge omni Shelby version for $2,000 off CL.... for fun. It's a cool car! Think I'm going to daily my sonic and resto this Omni.
