<20mpg, holy crap. I'd start tossing out seats and doors if I had to drive that. It might be worth it to find a running beater for ~$1k and run it into the ground for a month or two until you can find or afford the car you want. Just make sure you have AAA if you do that.

Seriously though, not sure what you mean by that. The Explorer gets less than 20mpg @ any speed.

Don't short change yourself and compromise on car that will work when you can wait a couple of months and get the car you want.

So I'm looking for some encouragement! The dealer is willing to sell it to me at invoice pricing so the deal is there (if I can get rid of my truck).

The question is...

Is ignorance bliss? Would I miss a 1.4T if I never had a chance to try one??

EDIT: I also sit in an hour of bumper to bumper traffic everyday...

Yeah, I hear you on the bumper to bumper issue. Some say put it in second gear and treat it almost like an AT in traffic... but I disagree. A manual tranny in traffic is a pain in the wazzoo much of the time, period. At least for me, it is.

I've owned a MT with turbo before. The torque is great and the boost is fun, and I'm sure the added hp would be good on the Sonic. When is extra hp NOT a good thing? But sometimes I just want to drive without the hassle of shifting.

If I go with a Sonic I will personally go with the 1.8 auto, or wait until spring when they may possibly offer a 1.6 or 1.8 in auto... if that's even possible.

Drive it again, if you like it and the manual mode is fun, the power is sufficient, then you have your answer... Go for it!!!
