Mis Shift?

Anybody here ever mis-shift?

I was going about 35 MPH today in 3rd gear and approaching a green light and turning left, I put the clutch in, shifted to 2nd, and for some reason just let out the clutch when I was supposed to slow down a bit. Major brain fart as I must have been day dreaming.

Anyways the whole car slows down real fast and I right away put the clutch back in.

Man, you gotta be on top or your driving game with a manual.

Yeah, I know. Luckily, on my first day, my coworkers thought my poor clutch was a roadkill skunk and only I knew my true shame. Having nobody to teach you really sucks...

I got better.

Downshift to 2nd gear at 35mph? I do that all the time on purpose, or did you mean 1st? 2nd goes up to 64mph so you aren't going to over-rev doing that.

It helps to rev match by blipping the throttle before downshifting, but the sonic throttle response is bit lacking for that kind of stuff.

If you are just getting used to a manual and thats the worst you do...you are doing much better than I did starting out.

Yeah I meant what I said. I usually rev match but for some reason I wasnt thinking, shifted to 2nd, and just let out the clutch and it was like I slammed on the brakes for a second. I know the car is fine it didnt grind or anything. I was coasting with the clutch in when I let it out in 2nd so I was under 1K RPMs so it scared me more than anything.

Im used to a manual so I was daydreaming at the time. I think a hot girl was walking on the sidewalk.

I have heard stories about people shifting into 2nd at 80mph though, damn.

If you shift into second instead of fourth at 96mph the car gets real upset and takes away your wingin' it privileges. 20 hp and limited to 55mph tops (takes a LONG time to get to 55mph at 20 hp)

I don't know about hitting the wrong gear, but I find myself missing 2nd gear way too often while trying to No Lift Shift from 1st gear. Tends to grind and/or pop out of gear. :/

I seriously need that Redline fluid and whatever tranny adjustments are needed to fix that 1st to 2nd issue...

go to the dealer. tranny fluid is a bandaid. There is a TSB that fixes the problem.

Do you know what the TSB addresses? I've done both the fluid and adjusted the cable tension.

I believe the 1-2 grind is from the drivetrain movement.

Oh yeah I did that, still grinds with MT90....oh well I don't shift fast and at high rpm except for autocross.
