More Plastidip ideas?

I've been really interested in Plastidipping parts of my car and I have ready access to it since I work at Lowe's. Anyway, that's not quite the point. A while back, I think it was Ferdie that put vinyl on his roof and I always thought that looked AMAZING!

I was going to save up and put some 3M carbon fiber vinyl on the roof, but I recently got the idea to plastidip the roof and that little rounded area on the rear bumper. I think the combo would make the car look perfect. I'm not a fan of just the spoiler being painted. Looks cheap.

Anyway, anybody done this or thought about doing that? Any reason why you shouldn't plastidip the roof?

Ha, I searched the forums, but I was specifically looking for the vinyl ones. That'll teach me! Didn't even think about searching for plastidipped ones.

I've done quite a bit of plastidip work to my car (wheels, bowties, emblems, hood, etc.) In fact I just put some pics up a little bit ago: http://www.sonicownersforum.com/forum/t3318/

Plastidip is really easy and fun to work with once you get the hang of it. I buy mine from Lowes as well (about $5.20 / can, 10% military discount too).

I can't quite decide if I like the plastidip behind the headlights, but I'm quite jealous of your wheels. Damn me for being impatient and just getting the 1.8! Anyway, amazing pics! You have a knack for shots.

Heh, my trick to getting decent shots is to take about 100 of them and weed through them to find ones that look good. The wheels are stock, I simply masked them off and sprayed the insides with plastidip to make them look unique.

Yes, it's with the spray paints.

EDIT: Thanks, Silversonic! Your car is the perfect example. I swear, the Sonics should have been painted this way from the factory. Any issues or anything when you did the roof?

I plasti dipped the chrome strip on the trunk of my sedan last night and it was a major failure. Two weeks ago I did both bow ties and they came out perfect. Both had a nice smooth texture to them, but when I did the chrome strip last night, the result was a "fuzzy" texture.

Just a side note, it was in the low 90s when I did this inside my garage. I did what seemed to be about 6-8 coats, about 10-15 min between each. For some reason, it just didn't seem like it was spreading on that thick with each coat, so I felt like I had to do more. What did I do wrong?

I was pretty unhappy with the way it looked today so I peeled it off. Back to the drawing board. I hate that chrome strip!

I just did my rear bumper and am planning to do the chrome on the window moldings I hate them with a passion and prolly gonna do the emblems too. Maybe even the chrome in the grill area once I start my fresg air fog light port.

I used vinyl for the chrome window strips and door handles. It's glossy so it matches the paint better than the matte black of plasti dip. Just a suggestion.

Im waiting for some cooler weather before doing some plastidip mods... all chrome will be gone.

Looks cheap you say, oh and "plastidipping" every damn trim piece isn't, you guys sure are funny! In fact, I've never seen such one particular vehicle being plastidipped sooooo ****ing much, my car's black and I don't even wanna use it on anything. Don't get me wrong, I hella hate chrome trim, but spraying a black plastic-like coating that can easily peel off isn't exactly nice, especially on a brand new car! I guess since y'all are supporting that company that makes it, they can stay in business thanks to Sonic owners now lmao!
