Official: What are your real world MPG Numbers

26.4 MPG US to work today.

Sigh...temp was 8*F this AM into a 18 MPH cross-headwind that turned into a cross tailwind....

Drove 60 the entire way except for the slow down zones. First refill today - we'll see what Fuelly starts saying. Too bad the delaer only gave us 3/4 tank - I'll have to wait until the fill after this one to get some pen and paper #s.

Well and with the temps in the low teens F driving 60 with a light favorable wind, I almost hit 33 hwy on the way home today. We'll see how we're doing after the next fill.

I have a 1.4t 6mt lt with 12,076 miles on it. Since I've got it I have not been happy with my MPG numbers. They always seem to float around the 28-30's. My driving is about 90% freeway and 10% city. I have been running pretty much only 93 octane and have not been using the ac at all recently. My temps around here have been between 50F and 70F, nothing extreme. I am not driving crazy and have really been trying to get good mpg, shifting around 2k and coasting in neutral when possible. I'm thinking about taking it back to the dealership and letting them evaluate the situation, any advice.

That sucks. You can certainly have them check it out. How fast are you going on the highway?

What speed do you typically cruise at on the highway? I was getting 35 on the DIC when I cruise at about 75. I can break into the 40's at lower speeds.

Here's a few pics of what I've managed for atleast a partial tank with my car (info in signature). The 43.6 was about my norm when i was hypermiling and sticking to rural roads. the other two were all rural super slow, no idling, tons of coasting.

each snap shot is based off of a fill up, resetting the trip and DIC. so the trip and DIC reflect my mileage since the last fill up (well withing the accuracy of the DIC).

Best I ever saw was somewhere in the high 60's in my stock 1.8. I don't remember exactly and there's a picture posted somewhere in this forum but I really don't want to search for it. Worst was 13.4 on my lunch break a few weeks back. (I was running late) haha

That's nothing. If you move to Texas you can get 67mpg over the whole tank.

On a pure highway run with cruise set at 60 MPH my 1.8L will run in the 40s. Even mostly city driving I only have a few fill ups below 30.

Keep in mind that the EPA test cycle is a very unrealistic test. It hits a max speed of 60 and averages 48.5 if my memory serves me correct. If cars were tested at actual speeds the majority of people drive and the manner in which they do it, fuel economy numbers would be much lower.

Well, first refill (sooner than expected as gas just went up $0.21/gal).

You can see the results on the fuelly sig below. Can't say this is overly impressive since I'm granny driving, and 85% of the drive is hwy, but the car is still under 600 mi. 30 MPG us is the same as 7.84 L/100km.

BTW, what sort of RPMs you guys turning at 60? At 98 km/h, I'm slightly over 2k on a flat highway.

Wow, temperature must really be costing me.

Interesting how different 6th on the AT is geared compared to 5th on the MT. Seems I should be getting better mileage at 2100 than you're getting at 2500.

My economy has taken a huge hit between the colder temps and the recent mainly city driving.

Well your Fuelly looks better than mine - mine would be 28.5 if it was in MPG, and that's in warmer temps (teens to twenties F) 85% highway. According to your Fuelly, you're averaging 6.7L/100km

And it looks like it's been around that from the start....

temps have been ranging from 20s-40s lately around me.

I drive like an old man and try to get the best economy I can out of my car, within reason. overall I would guess that about 45-55% of the miles tracked are highway miles at 60MPH. There are some other highway miles in the 65-70 range and a whole bunch of city miles (this includes stop and go highway where average speed is below 25). I have a few plans for bettering the economy, but they will be something that takes some time to complete and test.

Overall between best and worst tank is probably a 15 MPG spread averaged over the fill up. That would be a spring highway run and a fall city run.

Real world mpg 1.3 Eco diesel 5 speed

Hi guys, my car has nearly 10K miles, I'm getting roughly 55 mpg town driving average speed 11 mpg. Motorway / freeway 65 / 69 at 56 mph average speed using cruise control. Going off the fairy tail glossy figures off 78 mpg I'm very happy with my figures and I don't drive like Miss Daisy's Chauffeur.
