perfect.
16X6 wheel, 225/50/16 tire.
Previously I owned a 2002 Pontiac sunfire and I wanna keep the same rims. It's 5x100. I ordered my bolt adapters today 5x105 to 5x100 and the guy told me that they were 1" thick... The wheels are the Urban racing type 8, 18x7 with a +40 offset. All I need to order is my tires now and, and that's where I need help. I'm tryna make sure I don't run into a rubbing problem, cause thats +63 offset, from the tire or rim so I'm considering 215/40.... Or 225/40 what do y'all think is best? Anyone else in my situation?
25.2mm in an inch. that's 65 offset.
Your offset actually decreases when you insert spacers.
So +40 -25.4 = 14.6mm
The LOWER the offset, the more the wheels will stick out towards or past the fender, or "poke".
You would have ~+15 offset, but yes, you would indeed have more poke.
ZachTullier is running +30 offset on an 8" wide wheel.
The equivalent offset for a 7" wide wheel would be +30mm-12mm = 18mm.
Because your set up would be +15 offset, you would have 3mm more poke than Zach's set up, and he is running 205/45's.
Hope that helps!
Dang it Eric, get it right! lol
Coulda sworn Nico, Opticon, or I have explained this already.
But I'm not doing spacers it's an adapter... So wouldnt that be +65? Cause the wheel is already +40 n the adapter is 1" thick

Adapters ARE spacers. (But spacers aren't adapters. Like how squares are quadrilaterals, but quadrilaterals aren't necessarily squares)
Any time you add something between the hub and the wheel, your offset will decrease.
The only time you increase offset is if you were to shave down the inner hub of the wheel to make it sit closer to the suspension. (I don't think very many people do this.)
I prefer to stay toward the tire manufacturer's widest reccomended rim width in pursuit of sidewall stability and steering response. Unless I had a drag car... then I'd fit the widest tires possible for straight line grip.
Also, the Grand Am GT handled like a bag of warm jello. I wouldn't use that car to extoll the virtues of chubby rubber.
