Oil Change

Well for the 1.8L...4 quarts is not enough and checking your oil level immediately after driving/starting the car is not accurate at all. You have to give the oil time to get back down. That being said...I would add another half quart (if you only added 4)...give it a few minutes to settle on flat ground and check again (while the engine is cool and hasn't been running recently).

For future reference...4.8qts is the capacity for the 1.8.

I will check the oil right before I go back home after work. and yeah I know its 4.8 I'm just worried ill go over haha. Its not quite a quart left, its just a little under the line. The container should be almost empty for it to be 4.8 right?

Right. I wouldn't worry about going over with a 5qt container...I would much rather overfill by 1/5qt than be almost a quart low. If you let it drain good and changed the filter, then added a little over 4qts...just add another 1/2 quart and check it again. Definitely shouldn't be too much.

I let mine drain good and I just dump all 5qts in and call it good. Never had a issue

Thanks guys! And yeah I let it drain for a while, I took my time since I was bored and had nothing better to do. By the time I put the oil cap back in and reversed it off my ramps an hour had passed haha. By adding the remaining oil it won't weird out the oil life system right? Just wondering

Oil life system only monitors engine RPM's and temperatures and other parameters like that, it has absolutely no clue what oil or how much is in the engine. It's a calculation of how much wear there is on the oil assuming factory quantity and type. That's it.

Going to be changing the oil on my white Sonic when this snow melts some. It's got right at 1,000mi. I changed the black one at 1,500mi.
