Picking up my new 2013 Spark on Friday!

My 1.8 LT is a lot of fun to drive. A car does not have to have a lot of power (1.4 doesnt have a lot of power either) to be a fun car. Part of the joy of a smaller car is the ability to throw it around a bit. Sure it isnt a rocket, but who cares?? The corners are where the fun is at.


I looked at a Spark as an option for my fiancee. It doesnt look like to bad of a car. Plenty of room inside, smallish, and should be just perfect for a city car.

From what I understand as my dealer explained...Sonic for everyday driving and commuting. Spark strictly for city and small spaces. If you live in a place like NYC, Chicago, and never leave etc. might make sense. But if you plan to drive anywhere, it's not as good of a choice as the Sonic. Spark is cute and nice have some cargo room in that size car. I don't think it's as comfortable and has less "extras". But, I think it's more of a specific target market.

I'm hanging onto my old F150, so the cargo space thing isn't exactly critical, but I figure I'd drive the Spark about half the time, and that I'll drive the Sonic about 90% of the time.

I was interested to see that they are planning an Electric version of the Spark next year, with something like 105 hp. Why didn't they offer a turbo version of the regular Spark engine, it seems the frame is designed to take the extra power...

They were showing a turbo option a few months ago but its not there anymore

Actually, the Sonic gets fun to drive at LT with turbo, so that isn't low-grade.

Honestly, who wants to crank their windows?
I can see someone snagging a loaded Spark vs a low-end Sonic - they should just reside in the proper forum.

I can tell you personally, cranking windows is a pain that i wish I had never adopted, getting custom power windows for my 2LS Sonic later on though.

I don't think it's that bad. I did it in the 90s in my moms car I never thought of it as a huge hassle.

Lol my mom also thought it was "safer" her reasoning was everything electronic terrified her. The reason she never got an automatic is because she said she can't drive it the way she wants during the winter or up mountains (like she ever has really had to. Another thing, is she's said if she ever were to be underwater in her car out of some tragedy, she wouldnt be able to get out because her windows would lock out and shed die. She's always preferred roll up windows.

I don't think she was rational for this. But seeing people talk about the manual windows vs power reminded me of the crazy reasons of why my mom would buy a car.

When she got the sonic, she signed the paperwork before she even drove it.

Pfft Cranking windows isn't bad its retro now days.. If you get anything other than base most cars come with power windows. So going to crank windows is like going back in time.

Besides the LS window I tried cranked very easily. Even you wimps should be able to manage it.

Manual windows are awesome , my sonic is the complete opposite of my BMW . The sonic ls has everything I need and nothing I don't need .

With regard to Chevy, next summer, the 2014 Chevy Spark Electric Vehicle will strike dealerships in California. While GM has kept news of the Spark range under wraps, GM claims that the urban people-mover will have “a lot of pep in a tiny bundle,” reports The Detroit News. Don't do "custom" power windows. Just buy the parts from GM Parts - Genuine Replacement GM Parts - New GM Parts

I priced it all out, should be less than $500 for all the motors, and switches for all 4 windows as well as power mirrors.
A LOT cheaper than doing it custom.

The spark isn't bad at all. I considered one since a bare bones one shouldn't be much more than 12k. That's not bad for a new car.

I'm getting a Spark EV next year when they are released. 130HP and an instant 400LB-FT of torque. Plus, it's almost free to drive it. I'm not giving up my Sonic though.
