Porting the Intake Manifold

I'd be in for the metal manifold, but in the mean time, does anybody have any idea how to port the manifold, all I have is a screw driver o: phillips head.

But seriously though, do I need to get a rotary tool? Because those are ridiculously expensive. $100 isn't much for something you use everyday but for something I'll use once a year o:

Harbor Freight (or Tool King) is your friend. Get a rotary tool for cheap, with intermittent and hobby use it will be just fine.

You can use a die grinder (air powered) as another option but it's more expensive than a cheap electric rotary because you'll need a compressor too

Just got a new intake manifold to replace my original that is splitting at the seams, so I get to port another one, yay!

You guys are so helpful! I thought about the metal file, but I've never actually seen one in person, my dad suggested the hot knife, but I'd rather not make a mess. So I was on google and I found a dremel for about $40, and I could do that. Plus I kinda need one to finish my drone so I might as well get one, thanks though!

I haven't ported my intake manifold but I've been porting my stock air box (SAB) with a dremel. It seems the safest thing to cutting and grinding away plastic. It's one of those tools that pays for itself many times over with each project.

I bought the dremel micro, but it's not doing much damage, might have to make another trip to Lowe's and get a different bit.

Alright so I went to Lowes and ported my old manifold for practice. On a scale of 1-10 how perfect does it have to be?

Doesn't have to be super perfect just get it smooth

You have done well enough. You could wet sand it and high speed polish it after like one member but no need

Alright cool, so tomorrow morning I'll do it on the manifold that's on my car :b and I'll bypass the bypass too while I'm there. I was gonna bypass it today but can't seem to be able to get a screwdriver back there in order to get the little hose off.

Muahahaha... new intake you are no match for the mighty Dremel!

After removing the bulk of the material clean it up with the sanding roll...

Don't forget to go all the way around the port and smooth out those mold parting lines...

Don't forget to remove the throttle body and clean up some more mold lines...

And finally, don't forget to grind down the throttle plate screws...

I also went over the areas with some sand paper to do some final smoothing and blew all the dust out with the air compressor, it's ready to install!
