Just got my Intake manifold installed and flashed the new preliminary tune from Trifecta. While I was in there I went ahead and got the RacerX fuel rail and Bosch 42# injectors.
I wanted to post some tips if anyone else is interested in getting the manifold. Feel free to drop any questions or if anyone else has done this mod chime on in!
This install was a PAIN. This was the biggest mod I have done thus far and it took close to 6-7 hours to complete all together mostly because the instructions are a little lacking and I wasn't familiar with some of the things tied into the intake so modding them was a bit daunting. Regardless, here's some tips from a noob.
I originally installed the injectors and the fuel rail onto the manifold thinking it would be easier as I could just drop the whole thing in, bolt it up and be done.
This is not the case. While taking the stock manifold off I realized just how little space there is between the cowl and the top of the engine. It was almost impossible to get that thing out of there and I almost damaged the piece that you need to salvage from the back of the stock manifold. Not only that but with the fuel rail on you cant get your hands in there to hand start the manifold bolts.
I do suggest bolting the throttle body to the manifold before putting it into the car. I tried installing it after putting two bolts on the manifold to hold it and I could not get the bolts for the TB on properly because there is a bracket making it tighter than it needs to be.
Next issue I ran into is the ground wire from the fuel rail was not long enough to reach from the manifold bolts to the RacerX rail bolt? I ended up having to splice the wire to add some more length. Not a big deal since I had some wire laying around but just something to keep in mind before starting.
The back of the stock manifold is ziptied to a line and I found it is best reached from underneath. If you jack up the car, at the back of the sub-frame there is enough room to get an arm in to the back of the manifold to cut it.
If you go with the RacerX fuel rail, definitely do a Braided fuel line. I wasn't able to find a male push-on to female -6 fitting so I bought a female push-on to male -6 adapter and 2 swivel fittings to go on the ends of the braided line and this replaces the whole soft fuel line. Just push it on to the hard line and tighten it down to the rail. Looks so good without the unnecessary length and silver OEM fittings. Here is a pre-install pic of the line.
That's all I can remember right now, but despite the tough install, that first drive was worth it. Mid to top end power gains are noticeable! Now I just need to get the data logs to Trifecta to look over and see if any adjustments need to be made.
