I had sent an email to my dealer about the wrong sticker being on my car when I went to look at it, it had the sticker on it for 40mpg. I put down the deposit on the car and let it sit there on the lot for a month and finally went to get it.. well when I went to pick it up it had no sticker in the window, I thought: Well, that was nice of them!

Yeah... she sent me back an email saying she knows she changed the sticker before I bought it, so I came home and was looking through my paperwork, and there's a new sticker in there, all folded up and appears to have never been on the car. I feel slighted, like they intentionally did not tell me about the sticker change. I'm probably screwed on the rebate, even though when I purchased the car I was still under the impression that I was buying a 40mpg car.

This is the only "proof" I have. You can't even see where it says RS on it or tell that its on my car.

You can tell from the VIN - if fifth character is a G or H then you have the Sonic RS.

The VIN is on the Title you get from your state, if your named as an owner that should do it.

Yes for you. The VIN is on the Window Sticker, either at the top or in small font at the bottom of the sticker. That would show you have the RS with the wrong sticker. I do not believe you will have a problem.

My apology as I did not carefully read your post. Apparently the discrepancy was caught between the time you first looked at the car and the time you bought the car. I think buying the car is the issue, not what was there when looking but what was there when buying. You do have an issue in that the law requires the sticker to be actually attached but your relief may not be the same. - L

There was a Stop Delivery Issued at one point and the dealers that had RS units on the lot where sent the correct sticker. This is why you did not get a letter or a call from Chevy yet.

You probably will not recieve a letter or a check due to the dealer had the sticker in with your paperwork. They where suppost to remove the one on the vehicle and install the new one. Looks like your dealer just stuck it in the vehicles file.

That could be why the WS was not on the window.

Pretty sure the law has been court tested, but right now I can not remember the name of it (named after the Michigan Congressman who introduced it so I should be able to remember it) and I am about to head out for a basketball game.

I guess the question is did the deposit constitute establishment of a contract and the contract was based on the info on the original sticker. Interesting twist. Well we know Chevy monitors this site so perhaps one of their people can pass the info on. I should make sure you know I am not an attorney so this is not legal advice. I think the question would be was the deposit dated before the Stop Delivery Notice was delivered.

That's what I was going to suggest. Do you have a dated receipt for the deposit? If so, then it shouldn't be difficult to show that you put the deposit down before the new stickers were issued.

I'm confused again. Are you saying that's going to work in my favor or against me??

The car was on the lot. I went and looked at it with the old sticker in the window. Went home and found out I wouldn't have my down payment as soon as I thought so I called back a couple days later and put a deposit on it. I didn't see the car for a month and went down to purchase it. Nobody from the dealership bothered to let me know that there was a change. I would have thought if there was a big change like that that you'd call up the person who monetarily committed to purchase said vehicle and tell them.

Against you. The dealer recieved the updated Sticker from Chevy. It is the dealers fault that it was not installed on the vehicle. The dealer recieved the sticker after the stop delivery. Your name as the owner was not on record when the Stop delivery was issued.

Bottom line is The only fault you have with the issue was the sticker was not installed. Chevy's obligation was done after the dealer's stock show it was NOT DELIVERED YET.

Dealer can take a deposit on it but cant Delivery until the issue was handled.

The issue was handled because you have the correct Sticker in your vehicles file. Chevy looked at the Vin and it was still in the dealers stock. Deposit or not the title was not yet transfered into your name.

If you would have Purchased Prior to the Stop delivery Chevy would have contacted you.

That's what I was afraid of. Still it's shady customer service IMO. Rebate or not, you make a change that's going to cost your customer money you inform them.

That's just it.. they were so awesome on everything else. My sales lady is a total spaz, she told me she thought the sticker was a price change... I'm not even mad about missing out on money -although it definitely stings because I could complete the majority of my mod list with it. I wanted the RS and I know we were debating on what the actual deal was mileage-wise right here on this thread, I knew I was running a risk before GM confirmed it, so it's not even me being mad about less mpg. I'm upset because I feel deceived and that's one of my biggest pet peeves.

I'm definitely not blaming GM for this. They have no clue, as far as they are concerned the dealership took care of it. But you can bet I'll be asking about it anyway. It can't hurt.
